So any crowds to speak of? Also, see USA Volleyball sending out numerous calls for volunteers. Still short of almost all positions. They originally (2 months ago) were only "allowing" volunteers to sign up for six days. Tough for anyone to get that much time off, guess they were hoping for kids? ? Don't know. Hopefully they will take people for less time.

Anyone know whats going on with Xinya? Seems like she has been getting worse since those two big wins as a 16/17 year old. Now out in the qualifier

So if the pools line up the way they appear to based on the main draw page (http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Competitions/WorldTour/2015/event/Teams.asp?TournCode=WSTP2015&Phase=2), then Pool B is going to be:
[2] Agatha/Barbara BRA [15] Holtwick/Semmler GER [18] Valjas/Broder CAN [31] Fopma/Branagh USA
That is a tough pool considering how Valjas/Broder have started the year. I will be surprised if Fopma/Branagh get out of pool play.
Amazingly with six teams, I don't think any of the US teams are in the same pool.
Pool A
[1] Larissa/Talita BRA [16] Wang Fan/Yue Y. CHN [17] Zumkehr/Heidrich SUI [32] Hochevar/McGuire USA
Another tough pool for the US team.
Pool H
[8] Pavlik/Ross USA [9] Liliana/Baquerizo ESP [24] Kolosinska/Brzostek POL [25] Gallay/Klug ARG
Would hope Pavlik/Ross can win this pool.
Pool C
[3] Juliana/Antonelli BRA [14] Kolocova/Slukova CZE [19] Dubovcova/Nestarcova SVK [27] Carico/Dicello USA
Pool G
[7] Ludwig/Walkenhorst GER [10] Maria Clara/Carol BRA [23] Day/Kessy USA [26] Pata/Matauatu VAN
Pool E
[5] Lima/Fernanda BRA [12] Bawden/Clancy AUS [21] Sweat/Fendrick USA [28] Schwaiger/Hansel AUT

Lucena/Brunner have won their pool already. Would not be surprised to see a injury crop up and they have to forfeit their first match tomorrow.

I have always complained about how all the USA teams end up in the same pool and bracket. Now there in the United States and there pretty much all in different pools. Even on the men's side. It has to be rigged right?!?!

I think a big part of it is she isn't playing with Chen Xue (arguably the best player in the world at the time), and the two events they won were against weak fields. Xinya isn't playing behind Xue's massive block any more, and now is blocking herself with a smaller partner. The current Xinya/Ma partnership doesn't seem to be working out at all.

I didn't see it but that Poland team got 2nd last fIvb. Probably bad timing as the Poland team is hot and confident right now.

They have to. There's no way that almost every USA team is in different pools. I just went back and looked at other fivb events outside USA and almost every time there in same pool and bracket. And in those events there normally only 2 maybe 3 teams in it not 5 or so teams like now

And in those events there normally only 2 maybe 3 teams in it not 5 or so teams like now Seeding is all based on a teams seeding points, so no real way to mess with the pools. It all just worked out for the US on this occasion, now they just need to all find a way out!

This is correct. Host country seeds are adjusted to keep them out of the same pools per the regulations. However, it was not necessary for the St. Petersburg tournament. Go to the tournament page on the FIVB website and then go to the page that list the main draw teams. The seed points are on the right. Other than bumping the top US team to the #8 seed, no manipulation was necessary to keep them out of each others pools. For once, it just worked out. The lone exception is the pool with both Slick/Rosenthal and Crabb/Olson. My guess is that since the US had more than the maximum allowed teams due to an incomplete qualifier, they did not apply the rule for the extra US team.

What happened to Xue is another questuion. Did she just get old? Injured? (Stuck with Xinya?) Or could it be because Xi stopped playing?
