Russia, playing as Uralochka-Dinamo, defeated Zeiler Koniz and Infoplus Vicenza in strait sets in Basel, Switzerland.
Russian lineup includes all the expected except Artamanova (still in Japan?). Tiourina is in the lineup as libero.
Italy defeated Poland in 5 in Katowice, Poland.
For Italy Togut has yet to return, Rinieri is in Basel with her club team, and Leggeri is not on this trip because of ineffective play. Rinieri and Mello are expected to join for Baku trip.
Poland has Glinka, Silwa, Swieniewicz, Skowronska, and Niemczyk all in camp.

Added to this, the Turkish team has been in camp in Istanbul for the last week. Will travel to Baku on Dec 1st to play 2 matches with the Azeri Natl team before the tourney. The roster is the same as the on in WC.
Unlike previously thought, Roll, Pachale and Thumm will not play for Germany.

Team Russia (er... Uralochka) rolled thru the Polish team Winiary Kalisz. Kalisz coming off a nice win over the depleted Eczacibasi.
Vicenza will face Uralochka for a second time in the finals. Vicenza defeated RC Cannes in the semi. Cannes missing Rinieri who has departed to Forli to prepare for the Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Speaking of Italy they blew Poland out in their second preparation match.
Anna Vania Mello reported to Forli to begin the same preparations as Rinieri, but being herself, she was more than a day late without notice!

They got everyone but Artamonova there and I heard with the exception of Plotnikova everyone is injury free. Artamonova is playing with huge numbers in the Japanese league. With her addition, it looks like the Russians will be pretty much at full force in Baku. As for Mello, I guess the rift with Bonnita is over, at least for the time being. Not attending camp was the reason she was cut before. We'll see what happens now... Well Eczaci gives 5 players to Turkish NT and one to Bulgarian NT. Ruzic and Cigdem Can are the only two players from starting line up. My guess is that they went to they were invited to this tourney solely b/c of Ruzic and went there for some match play during the break.

Netherlands starting setter, Kim Staelens, is out with knee injury (torn ACL I believe). Unless they can somewhat get Fledderus recalled to the team, 17-year old Freriks will be the starting setter for them in Baku.
Btw Uralochka def Vicenza 3-0 to win the Topvolley Tournament....

Good genes! Any word on Fledderus? I hear she does not get along with the coach and is VERY unlikely to return. It looks like they will go with Freriks as starting setter.

Just in time for the Olympic qualifier the Azerbaijan Federation thought about their website. It's not exactly "up to date" (check out the rosters), but it's better than nothing. Hopefully they'll post results. www.azvolley.org/Mostly english but russian is available for most parts of the site.
