Does it count for a surprise? BTW do you know any place where one can find some game facts - AZE and FIVB websites are not updated yet?

Well IMHO it does not really count as a surpise but it could be counted as one. NED is playing without their starting setter who also happens to be a darn good server even though her setting leaves a lot to be desired. According to the dutch website (www.volleybal.nl), BUL was very effective serving and because of reception problems Freriks could not get an offense running. BUL is not a bad team at all. On a good day, they can beat anyone I think. www.volleybal.nl would be one place to check if you know german. i think dutch is very close. I've been browsing local vb sites as well as www.volleyball.it , CEV etc looking for info. Not much posted yet. I'm especially looking for stats...

RUS def AZE 3-1 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 25-20 I saw part of the last set. I was not aware that one of the channels I get is showing all matches (AzeriTV so caught the very end of it. Russia looked OK but not great. Artamonova was not around and I found out later that she's still in Japan because of some immigration problems. She will be leaving Japan on the 6th so she'll probably be around just for the end of the tournament.

they showed two matches live in the evening. GER def BUL 3-0 and NED def FIN also 3-0 if I'm not mistaken. No clue about other results, if any... I've watched parts of Ger vs Bul (until I realized I had RUS vs AZE on another channel ) . BUL players just seemed too bored out there and it looked like they wanted the match done and over with... Also saw very little of NED vs FIN. Finland, though they lost, looked better than I expected them to be...
