I guess Kerri's fight though Gstaad will go down in the annals, already being arguably paralleled to Kirk Gibson, et. al., but how is Rio looking after a '15 season and a full 15/16 offseason rest?

Its impressive but GIbson won the title, he didnt finish 4th. Over/Under on remaining career wins for Kerri? I would say 12 AVP and maybe 2 FIVB

Based on my experience the best cure for a chronic soft tissue shoulder injury is rest, rest, rest. I went through every physical therapy treatment possible and kept playing. It didn't work. Only after six months of rest I completely recovered.

Makes me wonder what the true diagnosis for her shoulder is. When mine got trashed after I fell down a flight of stairs at age 53, it took a full year of pretty serious rehab to get it back to nearly normal. I am certainly not a world class athlete, but still play 3 or 4 nights a week, so that is still a lot of serves and swings. Does anyone know what is really wrong? Is it a Karch at age 47 situation where it was hanging by a thread and he needed surgery, or is it some other structural problem which keeps causing it to pop out? Either way, it is pretty tough, because I don't think they will be able to I-formation and over-on-two their way to the Olympics?! I really feel sorry for her because she is still (relatively) young, but then you think about how many swings the average indoor-turned beach pros have on their shoulders by their mid-30's. Its almost amazing, in today's age of almost year round school/club/beach play for the women that there are not way more shoulders popping or ripping by their 20's and 30's! Remember when you could play two or three different sports in school, and did not have to specialize in just one by age 11???

I am not a medical professional, but I'll make a guess based on two cases of my friends. It seems that when you dislocate your shoulder labrum gets damaged and a new dislocation is just a matter of time. So it should be operated in order to have it fixed and recovery takes at least 6 months for what I have understood.

I think we need klazk to tally up the points needed for Kerri to make it in a '16 "run". What a situation to be faced with: Skip '15 and not qualify for Rio, or jeopardize '16 with play in '15, evidently beginning in Long Beach...No idea where this one is going, but you'd probably have to be in the "medical office" with the CAT scan's etc. to KNOW what the best course of action would be (other than take a year or two off...LOL)....Kerri certainly has shown what she does to a team no matter who she is paired with, when healthy, vs. April, would doesn't seem to compete that well on her own...IMHO...

The problem is that until the 2016 schedule is released, it is really hard to know.

I thought the situation was that team spots are earned for the country not the team. Why couldnt USAV hold something that would allow Kerri to steal a spot from another team.
Also on the table would be for Kerri and April to play some tournaments with April 2 balling and Kerri shooting when she does hit. Maybe they finish 17th a few times but mix that with their other results and they should still qualify right?

What do Walsh/Ross have to do to quailify for 2016 Rio? How tournaments do they have to play? How many teams are in contention for the 2 slots?

I can't imagine USAV NOT finding a way to let a healthy-by-Rio Kerri play. She's just too famous. I remember Michelle Kwon getting a special injury dispensation.
Maybe award 1 slot via FIVB points and give out the 2nd based on an as-late-as-possible qualifier tournament (plus they could televise that). Someone will make something happen - and if it's controversial - great for ratings!!!!!

I kind of was thinking like c4ndlelight, some "exemption". Maybe points for each previous gold medal won (JUST kidding, but...really)...Anway, klazk, Isn't the Kerri-April team STILL playing (READ: April plays and gets 1/2 points toward their eventual partnership as Kerri rests?). I would assume if April does well this year, with 1/2 the points going toward the Kerri-April partnership, all might be good (We may be keeping klazk up late some nights in April/May computing these "points"...LOL)...Anyway, the saga continues...
