Some goodies in the AVCA preseason preview.
Christopher Newport added transfer setter Madi Wickens from Nazareth. Wickens was All-Region in part because her father was a coach and on the committee, but she's still really good and I've heard from several people that she'd be better if she went someplace where she was Madi Wickens and NOT Cal Wickens daughter. We shall see!
Haverford has an incoming freshman named Natalie Pisch. Is the same Natalie Pisch that was headed to D1 Lafayette last year?
Hunter's transfer setter, Breanna Banske was a DS at Florida State? Nice get.
Wheaton in Illinois just keeps getting taller. 5'11" and 5'10" OH, 5'11" setter and a 6' middle is pretty strong for D3. Rose Hulman doing something similar.
Stevenson lost 2 Third Team All-Americans and brought in two freshman. That's either asking a lot of those kids, or accepting your fate.
Elmira adds JuCo All-American Kelsey Ray on the OH.
Susquehana adda a 6'3" MH, apparently intending to at least make Juniata go around them instead of over them.
Clarkson loses their Freshman Libero and a Sophomore DS, and brings in 3 freshman to play defense. Is this a move of necessity or opportunity?
Vassar loses a lot of offense but they bring in a stud setter from Colorado in MacMillen... hope that is a good sign for the Brewers.
Framingham State lost some, but it looks like they are bringing in more. MSCAC schools are typically 1 and done in the tournament but this group may change that.
Calvin's "top newcomers" include two girls named "Kamp" which means the MIAA coaches are allowed a double shot of whatever they need after Calvin get's done with them.
Hope signs sophomore transfer Haley Muller from Calvin, hoping to get some intel from behind enemy lines, perhaps? When you lose two of the top 5-6 players in the country you better pull something to try to defend your title.
St. Mary's Mn reports 7 incoming and lost 2 - that may be the biggest roster growth we see on this document
NESCAC gets some sunshine - Hayes Honea (Amherst), Sarah Staver (Middlebury) and Lisa Sheldon (Bowdoin) are all coming east from the Sunshine Volleyball Club in LA. You hate to see friends become rivals...
Tufts pulls a D1 transfer from Iona in 6-2 MH McKenzie Humann along with some talented freshman.
MIT lands two players that are 6-2. What are the odds that there are two girls who are 6-2 with MIT grades who turned down D1 scholarships? Its MIT, so pretty good actually.
State lands another Iona transfer in 5'6" DS Danielle Olcese, as well as Sr transfer Liliana Gonzalez from Concordia.
Stockton also pulls in two transfers in Georgian Court setter Amanda Rodriguez and Millersville RS Stephanie Kovacs.
Colby-Sawyer lists Shari Juranovits as a newcomer, but she was actually on the roster last season, she just didn't play.
Wittenberg, +8 and -2 so they might be the fastest growing team this offseason.
Sage graduates two All-Conference kids, but they return two of the best names in all of college volleyball... Siena Wilder and then the captain of their alliteration squad is Mickey Mango (alliteration squad also includes Bianca Bustamante and Carlie Clayton)
Sarah Lawrence needed newcomers more than anybody in the country and they show none. Lets hope that is some kind of privacy rule or something.
Hendrix won't sneak up on anyone this year. They follow a strong season with the all important "no starters lost" and they return MC Rogers which is like 15 wins right there.
With Eason and Lawrence back for Cal Lu, anybody claiming to have the best pins in the country better have Destinee Hooker on the right side or yours don't compare to theirs.
CMS adds two more 6' players, making 75 of them on the roster. But it doesn't appear they've replaced their amazing Libero Megan Coleman.
The preview document confirms that Allie Frappier has indeed graduated, and every coach with Pomona Pitzer on their schedule take a big sigh of relief upon reading that.
Colorado College add 4 freshman with just one mission... MUST BEAT SOUTHWESTERN
Iowa Wesleyan reporting 11 incoming players and 4 outgoing - "LINE CHANGE!!!" BTW, none are over 5'10"
SUNYAC keeping secrets, only New Paltz filled it out and who cares who they get, that coach could turn coal into gold. Of course that's easier when your freshman is 6' tall and from one of the best programs in the state of New York.
Emory losing Jacobs, McGrath and Bowman from a national runner up finish. Of course, they don't rebuild, they reload.
Wisconsin Oshkosh adds freshman setter Morgan Windau - daughter of Jedi Council member Mace Windau - the force is strong with this one.
I'm sure I missed some good story lines... what else is out there?

May have to make a trip to UWO (my alma mater) to see this young padawan, just hope she does better than her father did against the emperor.

Hey noreaster, great job pulling that all together and joc, thanks for posting and starting.
Generally speaking, I'm surprised how few schools fill out the AVCA info and since I'm more familiar with New England than other regions, there are conference with ZERO schools listed while other top out at 2-3 of 10+. Too bad.
I know rosters will post soon so that's always interesting.
It seems like there are TONS of 6'2 players listed as incoming or transfers.
Good luck to all!

Wait, so not only does Hope slide from 1 to 3, but they are ranked behind the last two teams they beat, and now they are not even picked to win their conference, behind a team they beat 9-6 on sets last season.
Did Coach Schmidt not send out Christmas Cards this year?

They did loose there two big pin hitters and blockers and honestly I think they are ranked a bit too high they should be behind Whitt and a few other teams

I'm sure they will drop, but lets be serious for a second. They lost to Stevens Point in 2013, Carthage in 2011 and Heidelberg in 2010 and 2011. Other than that they've only lost rivalry matches with Calvin and Wittenberg. How many teams will have 5 non-rivalry game losses in September? Hope counts back 5 seasons. That said, they play Calvin, Wittenberg and Heidelberg in consecutive weekends this September, so maybe the do drop 3 and fall to 10 or so.
