I had attached this article to another general Pac thread, but looks like last year each week got its own thread. Congrats to this week's honorees and nominees! Article- pac-12.com/article/2015/08/31/pac-12-announces-volleyball-players-week (Also contains a short 54 second video showing a few highlights of this week's winners.) " Pac-12 Announces Volleyball Players of the Week By Pac-12 Conference Aug 31, 2015 SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the opening week of the season. USC’s Samantha Bricio was voted the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, ARIZONA’s Kalei Mau was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and STANFORD’s Hayley Hodson was selected the Freshman of the Week. ... Wasn't the best offensive week for Hodson, 19 kills in 2 games while hitting 0.231.. but arguably had the best all-around game for Stanford with 23 digs and 6 blocks in 2 matches.
Bricio is definitely the front runner for NPOY now with the way SC is playing.

is there such a thing as a front runner for NPOY a few days into pre-season? My thoughts exactly. Bricio is my favorite non-Stanford player out there. But can we wait at least a few weeks before handing out the NPOY award?

My thoughts exactly. Bricio is my favorite non-Stanford player out there. But can we wait at least a few weeks before handing out the NPOY award? She always starts off well then cools off considerably in conference. 2012 4.24 kills per set .207% in Conference 4.06 kills per set .241 overall 2013 3.61 kills per set .242 in Conference 3.46 kills per set .253 overall 2014 4.82 kills per set .268 in Conference 4.28 kills per set .257 overall Over her first two years her hitting percentage was lower in conference play but not last year. And each year she averaged more kills per set in conference than out of conference. And the difference in hitting % was marginal in 2013. Not sure I'd call that cooling off considerably. She certainly has to be an early favorite. Things happen though. If Macey Gardner absolutely goes off and Arizona State plays well and they go to the Final Four it might be tempting to give it to her.

I think Bricio is the front runner if USC goes far in the post season. It also helps her on this new offense as she will see a lot of 1 on 1.

I hope USC goes far, and I'd be happy to see Bricio claim NPOY. As far as her seeing a lot of 1 on 1? I don't see any well-coached team blocking her 1 on 1. If USC meets Penn State, for example, how much 1 on 1 do you expect she would see?
