A good get for UCSB. The Gauchos should challenge UC Davis, and Cal Poly, for third place--behind Hawaii and Long Beach St. With Ruddins, Shebby, Juley and freshman Rice they have much more of a chance to challenge for the conference title than you give them credit for UCSB--with its excellent recruiting class and quality transfers--will finish in the upper echelon of this year's Big West Conference race. However, they will not challenge Hawaii, or Long Beach St., who return nearly all of their starters from last year's squads who finished at #1 and #2. Moreover, Cal Poly returns most of its squad that finished in 3rd place and has arguably one of the best setters in the west coast. Last season UCSB finished 3-13 in conference and 7-20 overall. With a new setter and with so many new players, UCSB will be greatly improved in 2016 and should finish, IMO, in the top 5 this season.

LBSU lost its best player in Hudson and she was the setter, I don't think Long Beach has a lock at #2 especially with the Shebby transferring to UCSB. I could see UCSB challenging Hawaii for the top spot.

Does anyone have any insight into transferring within conference if you change sports? Like Zoe Nightingale, from UCLA to USC. This rarely happens in changing sports within conference (well rare to me). I believe Nightingale transferred from UCLA to USC before Pac-12 officially picked up beach volleyball so she may have been fine.

Nightingale (and Norton's transfer before that) were both as grad students so I don't think the conference rule applies for that.

I believe if you change sports, you are not considered a transfer (for transfer rules to apply). Thanks, I called NCAA and they said that a year is a year regardless. If you run track for 1 school and then decided to switch sports and go to a different school and swim, there is no difference. I thought this was a little weird. Anyone? I believe, in the example you are citing, that it is a graduate transfer. That has it's own set of rules. Essentially, the athlete has completed their four years of eligibility at their school and is transferring for an additional year in a different sport as a graduate student. Those do not fall under the same parameters as transferring with eligibility left.

Genesis Miranda (Evansville) to Iowa State (woo!), official release here. As for the person above asking about Remi Bowman, no one in Ames has any idea. She left at semester and has not been in contact with anyone.

Bailee Huizenga who signed with Arizona State will be transferring (if you consider that a transfer)

Reported on Rich Kern today. UCSB got her. Obviously, a successful visit. UCSB is a party school. She will need discipline and some hand-holding to stay away from temptations. There's nothing wrong with partying, as long as you do it in moderation and have your priorities straight (and yes, D1 athletes party too)

Sounds like Brittany Howard will finish her beach volleyball career at Pepperdine next year, according to current Pepp players.
U of San Francisco MB Madison Murtagh is transferring to USC. That was done before Gilad Doron left for Dartmouth - but you have to think there may be others to follow now that Doron has left and a new coach has not yet been hired.

Yes and some recruits WILL look to leave.
