Interesting on Detering; can't imagine PSU's current setter is happy about that. Could have a domino effect there . . . I don't get it from Detering's standpoint. IMO Weiskircher is a better setter. If it was playing time, go to a smaller program and be the starter. I don't see Detering playing at all at PSU. Apparently Rose doesn't think she's a better setter

The new flavor of the month had arrived at Gainesville and Detering WISELY moved on. Competition is ON in South Gym. Have at it ladies. 6 setters and about 20 DS's. 1st and 2nd contacts clearly are the hot commodities. To whom are you referring?

Either way a quality education, either way a great coach. But to give up a scholarship to do it? Her choice, not mine but it makes no sense

This makes me believe RR did not feel passing was the primary cause of setting issues last season. I doubt Detering would leave Florida where she was on scholarship to transfer to another program and not be on scholarship and if she left Florida over concerns of play time then she must feel confident she will have better opportunity to play at PSU. This should make for a very interesting competition over the summer. Could be. Better passing or setting would address, to some extent, poor hitting... but we still don't have elite hitters outside. I guess the strategy now is to fix passing and setting such that even so-so hitters can tide us over for a couple years until we get new hitters.

If Rose wasn't concerned he wouldn't bring in a 4th setter

You had pretty much the same hitters last season as you did in 2014. Frantti and Lee are quite gifted. I think improving the first two contacts would go a long way. Also more leadership.

Weiskircher has decent serve but wasn't impressed with her setting. I know passing was issue last year but even the games it wasn't she was setting her hitters way off the net. Comming off micha who put her hitters in better positions as well as opening up her hitters because of her abilitys, it's been underwhelming watching weiskircher

Hoping white can shore up that first touch. I'm in between with hitters. They obviously have talent. Maybe the passing and setting problems maybe made it look bad. Be interested to see if hitters look different if both those get shored up

Maybe the WWE action is killer in PA. Maybe Abby now knows she will work better with a more composed head coach. Maybe she wants to win a NC and PSU's locker room stocks ice cream in 31 flavors. Maybe BW has a release and is half way out the door. Whatever. Positive thing girls have choices and can act upon them. Hope it works out well for all.

Let's keep it a transfers thread and not a deconstruct-Penn-State's-talent thread. I'm pretty sure there are already 2 or 3 of those! ;-)
On the "non-transfer" front, I have been mildly surprised (so far?) that no one is transferring off of Arkansas' team, despite getting a new coach. That's not intended to be a comment on Jason's coaching or his staff, which I think are both pretty great, but just a comment on the near-universality of departures from a program after a coaching change. They have had 2 of Robby's recruits decommit, but that's even more normal than transfers, imo. Wondering if anyone will transfer out -- or in? -- now that their spring season is over.

Jason Watson is a good coach and will do well in the SEC with some time and some of his own recruits.
