Stacey Gordon, Ohio State SR, Outside Hitter, Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale Collegiate
Gordon earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week honor of the season and the 13th of her career after leading the 16th-ranked Buckeyes to a pair of wins on the weekend, including a 3-1 upset over No. 1 Minnesota.
The senior outside hitter recorded a season-high 36 kills in the victory over the Golden Gophers, averaging nine kills per game with a .368 hitting percentage. Last Friday's upset over Minnesota marked the 16th match Gordon has had 30 or more kills in her career.
In a 3-0 sweep of Iowa on Saturday, Gordon registered 14 kills to extend her streak of consecutive matches with double-figure kills to 90. For her career, she has had double-figure kills in 103 of 105 matches.
Her 12 digs against Minnesota and 16 versus Iowa gives her four consecutive matches with double-figure digs and now has five double-figure dig matches this season. Gordon has recorded double-figure digs in 74 career matches and 72 matches with double-figure kills and digs in her career.
Gordon has helped lead Ohio State to first place in the Conference at 4-0 and a 14-0 record overall - the Buckeyes' best start in school history and OSU's third-longest winning streak.

I remember when I saw here first time in Badger’s Field House. At that time UW had S Livingston and A Hultgren (6’4”) playing in the middle. They were looking huge compared to her. I felt kind of sorry for her during the warm up thinking this game she might not be able to register a kill. To my biggest surprise it turned out SL and AH were those that I had to feel sorry for.

Being from Toledo, I love the Buckeyes and know that Gordon is the league's best player and most likely the national player of the year. But, on Saturday night I traveled to East Lansing and saw a good performance by Leah Wishmeier. Wishmeier had 23 kills on Saturday. Checking the weekend stats, it looks like the two were pretty similar with Stacy recording 50 kills - 15 errors - 110 attempts; Leah had 49 kills - 13 errors - 108 attempts. I guess you could give the award to Stacy any week you want, but how often is someone in the league going to stay with her swing for swing - especially on the Michigan road trip.

Moreover, Leah almost did it last week, too, finishing a few kills behind Gordon but with fewer errors (and a higher hitting %). Wischmeier is quietly putting up a very strong season. She's really developed a killer instinct this year, and has been terminating very well.

My guess is she is the National POW, as well.

Mary was just talking about Gordon on her call in show. Said for those Gators who haven't seen her, picture the build of Jenny Manz and the jump and skill of Aury Cruz. She's elite. Also complimented Minnesota for getting a split on that tough road trip.

The split by Minnesota may be the difference for Hebert's team. Not many teams will match that feat. If the Gophers can sweep at home - they win the title - barring any collapses along the way.

Sounds interesting, we'll have to keep an eye out for Wishmeier. She sounds like she's off to a great start, and should help compliment Schram, but to compare the Wishmeir and Gordon stats this weekend was a bit of a mismatch with Michigan State playing Purdue for 5 games and the other opponent being winless Indiana. The Bucks were up against a tough Minn who have Gentil, among others, and the definitely improved defense of the Iowa team. Nevertheless, it's Gordon and Stevens vs Schram and Wishmeier (and companies)head to head in two weeks.

In fact, it is Wischmeier and McConaha and the rest of Purdue vs Gordon and Stevens and the rest of the Ohio State this weekend.

Since you said you saw Wishmeier at East Lansing but I didn't have a program handy, I guessed at the wrong team that she played for. Oh well, nevertheless, we'll keep our eyes out for her this weekend, wherever she is.

So much for the matchup of Stevens and Gordon (and companies) vs Mc Conaha and Wischmeier (and companies). Game totals show 33 kills and 23 digs for S+G vs 25 kills and 3 digs for M+C. Offense and defense make the first two more complete players. Congrats to all 4 for a good match.

Offense and defense make the first two more complete players. Congrats to all 4 for a good match. If you read my write up, you see that Wischmeier kept up pretty well with Gordon through games 1 and 2, but then they clamped down on her in game 3. Gordon is also very strong in the back row (attested by her digs), and served very strongly. She is as complete a player as you will find in the country, that is for sure. Stevens was on fire in game 1, but cooled afterward. OTOH, you could put pretty much anyone with Gordon and they would have outperformed Wischmeier/McConaha. Not because those kids were bad, but because Gordon was that good. As usual.
