I am watching this match as I type this message. All I can say is that the other PAC-10 teams are damned lucky that Jerkov is not on this Cal Team.....Stanford had all it could handle and the rematch will probably go to Cal. Stanford has big time problems with their usual great passing game, and take away the two outside hitters and they got no offense whatsoever! Nnamani is still far too erratic in her hitting, spectacular, but still too erratic!

I like Kehoe, however.

Makes the accomplishments of Lily and Kim over the last few years that much more amazing. Stanford's reliance on their outside hitters hasn't been anywhere near as effective as Hawaii last year.

I agree that Cal would be much better with Mia, but how can you say someone is too erratic when they hit .319 on some 600 attmepts?
I'm just so glad that next year they have more ball control players coming in like BARBOZA!

Why did they not show game 4? Will it be shown on Wednesday when they play the tape again? Anybody know?? Replays are always edited to fit into a two-hour time window. I guess they decided to cut out game 4 completely. Kind of a shame, since that was the probably the best game of the night. I remember when Fox Sports used to broadcast these matches live. They're still broadcasting a few of them live in Southern California this season.

Is this match goping to be replayed by Fox? Can't wait to see Barboza play in college! Fox Sports Bay Area is replaying it at 12PM this Wednesday. I plan on setting my VCR to record a better copy than the one I taped Saturday. I got that one since it was after the Cal-Oregon St football game, but the tape I used has a lot of dropouts and was recorded at EP. BTW - Burhnam Pavilion showed up pretty well on camera. It had a small, intimate feel like a HS gym (similar to the RSF Field House at Cal). They had one big camera in the corner (up on the balcony), and they used several small or portable cameras for the crowd shots and mid-court angles. The band and student section was standing room only up on the balcony in front of several offices. I've spent some time in Burhnam at various VB clinics, so I was quite familiar with how to get there.

I watched most of the match last night. Some general observations:
I was disappointed with Kehoe. Maybe she just had a bad night, but her positioning to her left side hitters was atrocious! She kept setting Ogonna and K. Richards way too far inside. They came storming in to hit the ball.... but the only place to hit was into the block. She also had several miscues with her middle hitters. I think she only had one good connection with Suiter for the whole 5 set match. (not sure whose fault that was).
What is up with college setters. The difference between college setters and international setters is HUGE! Maybe I'm a bit biased from watching the Olympics.
I was very impressed with Kristen Richards. Her stats were not all that great for the match, but I love her style of play. She really can do it all. The way she moved.... very fluid, but with power.... reminded me a bit of Logan Tom. I was a bit surprised by how hard she can hit the ball. (when she got a good set) Great defense as well
Hucke is underrated. She is a great right side hitter. Isnt' this her first year to start? Surprising.
Ogonna didn't seem to be the leader (emotional) on the court that she needs to be. She did seem to be a bit erratic, but I think that had more to do with the setting.
Pressey for CAL was awesome! She is a 5-8 freshman, yet she was the leading scorer.

I finally got to watch the match last nite. I agree with you about Kehoe. I think she was so good in club because she had some really good passers on her teams. But she had her great moments with the one handed back set to Suiter was beautiful. I really feel that Goldhahn should run the show with Kehoe as a libero. Kehoe's D was awesome. During those certain roatations where Katie set, the looked really good because Katie's locatin was better for all the hitters and Kehoe was passing nails. As for Hucke, I was impressed more with her hitting this year but as usual her passing needs to be more consistent. And Richards, I had the opposit opinion that you on her. She is very fluid but I thought her passing wasn't as good as last year and neither was her defense. I'm wonderin if it is Dunning thing, but why are they serving lollipops all nite?

I'm wonderin if it is Dunning thing, but why are they serving lollipops all nite? I don't think a jump serve is anymore effective than a great floater. Kehoe and Richards are by far Stanford's best servers, imho, and they have jump floaties. Whenever either go behind the line, fans can usually count on the Stanford to go on a run.

IMO there is no way Goldhahn can get to some of the passes that Kehoe gets to. Kehoe has key blocks at times and adds a lot to the team chemistry. Making her a libero would take her off the court. IMO Kehoe's play has suffered because of the confusing roles, ie a couple rotations as setter, a rotation passing, a rotation hitting. Things that could help the Cardinal...IMO if Ogonna would be a little more selective with her shots, ie hitting line, keep the ball out of middle back, she would be much more successful. We all know she can hit over the block. Also, this team does not have enough leadership out there, putting a load on the freshman players.
