Could be a major challenge for the Jackets that first weekend. Plus interesting matchups with up and coming Purdue and Team Z... I mean Ohio State. And the rematch with Wisconsin at Madison. Should be a very exciting preconference.

So, someone explain to me again why Georgia Tech uses "Ramblin Wreck" and "Yellow Jackets" as their mascot(s)?

Could you read it for me and summarize it. My reading skills are down today, as are my stocks.

Back in the very early days of college football, the Tech student body went to cheer on their team at one of its first games. They'd already turned out to cheer for Auburn against arch-rival Georgia.
They met in advance and chose gold and white as team colors and selected cheers for the game. They went to the game in gold jackets, thus the name Yellow Jackets. They've since gotten a mascot, Buzz, who's popular for his yellow-jacket bug costume and antics at school events, including volleyball games at O'Keefe gym.
The school fight song, I'm a Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech, was a national hit in the 30s. Tech being an engineering school, their teams were known as the Engineers and, when they won one of their national championships in the late 20s, the Golden Tornado.
The school maintains an actual Ramblin Wreck, a 1930 model A in school colors, which leads the football team onto the field and shows up other times and places. It's stored below the studios of WREK, home of the Volleybees.
There's also an annual ramblin' wreck parade at homecoming, when student groups enter cars they've made.

Is Georgia Tech going to continue running that really fast offense that they did last year, without Eveland? I wonder if Bond will change his style once Moster graduates? It just seems like when I've seen them play that they don't always get a good swing on the ball especially with the new setter.

I am sure that GT will still employ the fast offense with Laband at setter. From what I saw this spring, it is still effective. GT has not lost a match this spring, so I would say it is still working. I believe the offense will only get better as Lindsey becomes more accustom to what each hitter wants to hit.

gt don, It appears that UNC and GT will battle for the ACC title in the Fall.Based upon the Spring matches, what are your thoughts for the upcoming season? At UGA several weeks ago,UNC and GT split 1-1.Last weekend,UNC played Penn State and Washington tough.
My impression is that, due to the loss of AA setter Kele Eveland and MH Alexandra Preiss, GT will not be as strong as last season.I think that UNC will be stronger than last season. They return 5 of 6 starters.I expect Amy Beaver to step into the M2 position. At this point, she is not as much of an offensive threat as Aletha Green, but she is a better blocker.McKenzie Byrd is getting healther(she set against Penn State and Washington) and will be full strength by the Fall.
Here is my projected starting line-up for UNC this Fall. What is yours for GT? Molly Pyles 6`0 OH Dani Nyenhuis 6`0 OH Meg Eckert 6`1 OH Katie Wright 6`1 MH Amy Beaver 6`1 MH McKenzie Byrd 5`11 S Caroline deRoeck 5`8 DS/Libero
I`m looking forward to a competitive race in the ACC this Fall.

uncfan I expect to see several ACC "wars" by several ACC teams. I will not overlook Maryland again. They do return a lot of really fine players. UNC will return to be a team to be feared. UNC has quality coaching and will have the players ready for this fall. Then there is Duke, who had an off year, but has the ability to beat any team in the conference. Also, there is Clemson and Virginia who can step it up to beat anybody. Just ask Maryland. We do not yet know what to expect from FSU, Miami, and VT. Overall, I don't see anyone going 15-1 like GT did last year. I expect the winner to go something like 15-3. I do think GT will be competing for that ACC title again. Lindsey Laband will be fine replacing Eveland. I just don't know about the M1. GT will have to play a freshman in the middle. We may not get as much offense, but we can deal with that loss as long as we get good blocking. One huge reason I have for GT continuing to be a contender is 5 seniors who will be playing for GT. That type of experience is irreplacable.

I wish GT and Florida could find a way to start playing each other on a regular basis.

If GT continues to be a force in the east, I am sure Florida will finally "pick them up". It is probably a scheduling problem for this year. It takes both schools to have a "hole" in the schedule to fill. Judging by the way they played each other in the spring, it could be a really entertaining matchup.

Hehe... finally an east-coast team with a decent enough RPI to schedule non-conference! You'd think that Florida would JUMP at the opportunity. However, GT has little history of being that good... it'll take Bond a couple more years to prove it wasn't a fluke. No offense intended.
