Has an overall losing record at his former school, although a winning conference record. He must be really tight with the AD at Iona who is also the owner of The Island Volleyball Academy where he currently coaches club. He must interview really well. He is a solid young coach and knows what he is doing. Yes, he is very close with Rick and it's always the same story, you have to know somebody, who knows somebody. In his case he did very solid job at Farmingdale last 2-3 years. If Iona wants to add send this will be huge advantage to start the program. Good luck!

Did anyone have this one on the radar? Yeah, this is the aforementioned Academy club coach. JA taking the positive spin but I'd be shocked if Iona fronted the money to start a beach program, as part of the coaches duty is to raise money so they can have an indoor volleyball team so where would the money come from to start a team that doesn't have an opponent within 4 hours of them? I'm personally familiar with all parties involved here and this doesn't look good on any of them. Rick is supposed to be an advocate for volleyball, but waits 5 months and then blows the hire. That's what you expect from an AD who doesn't care about volleyball. Patric was at the most affordable school in his conference and couldn't (or just didn't) recruit. Now he's going to a school in the lower half of the league in scholarship funding. And I don't know the answer but did he get any Academy kids to his old school? I don't think so but I'm not sure. I hope there is another shoe to drop... an additional scholarship, a new gym, maybe Patric is engaged to a national team member who is going to be his volunteer assistant - anything, because on it's face this just looks bad.

Allegedly, Savannah St has started reviewing applications.
As far as Iona goes, hire may be a question of who Iona could afford. I know coaches with DI assistant and high DII head coach experience who were interested in talking to Iona, but were never going to take it for the supposed 40ish salary. Salary they were rumored to be offering may be below the poverty line in that part of New York, especially for a coach with a family. AD may care a great for VB, but cannot get a coach that looks better on paper...

We'll see if she can recruit and coach. Here's how the recruiting conversation goes: MM: "I'm Misty F*ing May" PSA: "Where Do I Sign?"

Recent talk is that there will be a D1 assistant opening in Omaha , that I didn't even know was open, that has been filled. Announcement coming soon? Mendoza went to High Point from Creighton...is this what you are referring to? Position filled by Ryan Meek, formerly head coach of D-III Hendrix in Arkansas. New Creighton volunteer assistant is Micah Rhodes, formerly assistant coach of D-III Buena Vista. He replaces Kyle South, who became a paid assistant at Oral Roberts.

This is absolutely correct...after working with Misty on a couple of her "Dream in Gold" clinics I have no doubt that players will flock to her. My question is what will be her tolerance for the level of effort put in by players and the pile of organizational bull crap that coaching brings with it.

I applied for this job, and I can say honestly that the better candidate got the nod. The Bitter Old Wife and I were laughing about it this morning. The AD going 'On one hand, we've got this crapulent beat-up near-dead SHPOS, and on the other hand, we've got Misti May-Treanor. Hmmmm....Who am I going to choose?' Good luck to her.

In any sport- how many great players have turned into great coaches? I don't know the answer, that's why I'm asking. The NBA Finals had two former role players in Kerr and Lue, and that's being very courteous to Lue. I heard someone explain once that a big reason those kinds of guys become good coaches is because they had to put in so much extra as players that they do the same as coaches.
