Announcement this morning that another Grand Slam is being added in Germany right before Olympic qualification ends. Will be interesting to see if any of the spots are still up for grabs and come down to that tournament.

When will 2016 AVP schedule come out? Well, looking at the FIVB calendar the AVP COULD host an event or 2 in March, but not sure that will happen. Klazk, what is the rules about domestic overlapping FIVB Opens? There may be events in April if it's allowed, otherwise June? But to answer the question of when the AVP is releasing their schedule? my guess is early March.

I count 12 Opens+Slams for women and 14 for men (including Hamburg) before the Olympic qualification deadline. But in reality you have to subtract one, since the Prague Open and the Moscow Slam completely overlap. Is that correct?

So that would make it 11 and 13 with Hamburg. There are still a few that have asterisks, which in the past has meant that they were tentative and the promoter details had not been finalized. There are no rules about overlap between FIVB and AVP.

So if this schedule holds, a brand new men's team could play enough events to qualify for Rio? But a women's team would have to have played one already? (To qualify via the FIVB tour.) Or am I confused again?

Correct! As long as they all hold, 13 for men, 11 for women. It's going to be a busy 1st half of the year for some teams!

That Open seems like a good chance for an average team to steal some points by beating up on scrubs, while all the top teams are in Moscow.

Speculation has it that all events except one will be held before the Olympics.

The 2016 calendar still has an asterisk by it on the 2016 calendar page (http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Calendar.asp - may not to change to 2016). Historically that has meant the event is not confirmed yet.
