Hey guys, I am a student from Germany an I am currently working on my master thesis. The master thesis will focus on placing beach volleyball on market more efficiently. We want more people to be interested in beach volleyball and watch beach volleyball tournaments. Therefore I am currently developing a questionnaire to examine what kind of benefits beachvolleyball offers to people who watch a beachvolleball tournament. It would be awesome if you could provide me with any benefit that comes into your mind: e.g. "when I watch a beach volleyball tournament, I can spend a day in the sun". Benefits can also be related to the location, the players, the event... Anything is possible! Thank you so much in advance. I am really looking forward to your insider-knowledge. Regards, Jana!

A lot....you can call me if you'd like (408) 504-2345 - Jim McNamee
VERY close to the stars in a tournament, as opposed to other sport venues You get to see these same "stars" ALL DAY LONG, as opposed to 1-3 hours in a regularl sports venue The venue is usually a "party atmosphere" with MANY freebees Great place to connect with similar minded people (we have our "tournament friends" we see only at tourneys (due to most tourneys being in So. Cal.) FREE etc...

You don't necessarily have to be a beach vball fan to enjoy the atmosphere; unlike an NBA/MLB game. And as VBJim suggested - it's pretty cool to be sitting in the stands watching a game with the pros (when they're not in the tent).

A guy behind me said "Oh, I am"! It was Pedro Salgado, nicest guy you could meet...

Lauderdale event, after beating Spain (Herrera/Gavera) I think, Casey Patterson walked past us and behind a kid with a similar "suave hawk" and said something about the kid's hair. Kid had no idea it was Casey; until he turned and was stoked. Goes without saying that these interactions are obviously more uncommon in the major sports.

When I'm watching beach volleyball there are lots of girls in bikinis to look at during timeouts..... That's a great reason to go watch... Ugh. Why not go and watch because these ladies have worked hard to master their craft? Why not go to watch fierce competition and get some sun while you are at it?

I was not talking about the female competitors....I stick to watching the guys play and watching the girls in the stands, who are more my type. I do love fierce competition, but the sun gives you cancer.

Many benefits... Pending which tournament you go to, watching elite athletes perform is always fun. Sand under your feet, some vitamin d on the skin, and the social aspect of it is a blast as well.

Wow, this question is right up gr8ful's beach….the three B's immediately come to mind - Beach, Beer and Babes (all you pervs who thought I was going to say boobs get your mind out of the gutter). There is no greater sporting event that you can be right on the sand within feet of players to see there reaction on points, reaction to body cramps, reaction to one player is forced to carry his partner, etc….you can literally be right there and have interaction with the players. The heckling and trash talking is nothing like it use to be, but there was nothing better than talking smack with the players as often times they would talk back with you…the atmosphere is like when the carnival rolls in to town for a few days of fun. You can show up in the morning, watch a few matches, and wander around. You can always leave and comeback, don't like the match you are watching move to another one - not many pro level sporting events offer all of this, and at an affordable price. You can take the whole family for what the price is of one ticket for a major sporting event, and everyone is a winner - guys can perv on hot fit chicks, and the ladies get plenty of eye candy as well - plus the kids get to see some of the most physically fit, under rated athletes on the planet. I can go on and on, but i don't want to write the paper for you.
