What is taking Iowa so long to hire? They've had their four final candidates named for awhile and had them all in for interviews, Frederick, Heffernan, Smith and Pulliza. The new coach whoever it is, is losing out on valuable recruiting time. Since May is a down time for coaches, I guess the new coach will have a month to get settled in Iowa City.

This is IOWA remember. They have already shown they don't view VB as a priority.
I have no idea what they are telling the candidates, but if it's NOTHING, I would have some serious 2nd-thoughts about going there. If I were they.
And I'm not. They. I am I. Don Quixote.

I have no idea what they are telling the candidates, but if it's NOTHING, I would have some serious 2nd-thoughts about going there. If I were they. I assume the opposite, actually. That they have been making offers, going through negotiations, and getting turned down. In the meantime, they are probably alienating the other candidates on the list, who are busy preparing for next year. Unlike most academic offers, coaching position offers are pretty easy to put out, at least to some extent (the admin signs off pretty quick). So I would be very surprised if they didn't start making offers pretty soon after the interviews. The lack of progress basically tells me that they are being turned down a lot, or are at least having trouble getting out an offer acceptable to the candidate.

As of last Friday, no.
I know Fredricks pulled out, leaving on Heffernan and Smith. I cannot imagine what the hold up is?!?!

As far a losing valuable recruting time the staff that is still in tact (Gonzales and Ohta) have to be pleased with the 04's coming in.
The big surprise coming out of Texas is that 6'1 OH Merian Pencheva (hope I didn't butcher the name-Midland JC) the leading 2003 kpg hitter in NJCAA has verbally committed to Iowa and wants to be a Hawkeye if the current staff stays regardless of the head coach...according to sources in the Midland AD and a few disgruntled coaches who were after her . Also heard Gonzales was trying to keep this one quiet.
Justeen Patten a 5'8 JUCO setter from Barton County is already at Iowa and set during the Spring. She set her team last year to a Final Four at the NJCAA National Tournament and was a libero on the team that won the NJCAA National Championship this past year. Sounds like very familiar stategy to Beach fans "ala Joy Mackenzy" who was a defensive specialist for a few years and then became an All-American setter.
And with the signing of 6'1 OH/Opp Stacy Vitali from Chicago the Hawks are already much better on paper than last year. I'm not sure how many more scholarships they have but whoever gets the job will inheret a much better team than last year that for sure.
Here is what I think the starting line-up will look like:
L1 Merian Pencheva L2 Stacy Vitali M1 Caroline Giese M2 Laura Simpson Opp April Meck or Lastacia Granger S Justeen Patten Li Pam Karvadas
Its about time something positive came from this program. Only hope they come up with a head coach that can do something.
