USC picked up Daley Krage (6'3" Opposite) from Illinois. She originally signed with Northwestern but I'm assuming she was released when Chan left. Surprised she decided to head west after she narrowed down mostly Big Ten schools when first committing.

Maybe she took a trip to the West Coast and discovered "nice winters."

Nice pickup for USC. Not a super polished player but lots of potential

From what I've seen from her she is still a somewhat inconsistent attacker (has some impressive kills but also a few errors to go along with the kills), but a very good athlete and is a legit 6'3". Have only seen her a few times so I won't comment that much on her, but I don't see her beating out Abercrombie (as a freshman anyway)

I know this is off topic, but this is the second Fusion player once committed to Northwestern, and now after the coaching change is not. Any insight on whether Krage's change of heart was her choice, or initiated by NU's new coaching staff?

Well, most teams could use "depth" on the RS, but lack there of for USC certainly isn't their problem USC has had a legit RS attacker that has been either a top 10 recruit or stud foreign transfer on the roster EVERY year for over a decade. I really can't think of another program other than perhaps Texas or Nebraska (and I'd need to do some digging) that can boast the same consistent credentials of RS attackers as USC.

I don't know if they had depth, but PSU up until this past year has had solid RS attacks. Brown, Scott, Whitney.. All were first and second team all Americans. Who was the predecessor to Brown??

Sure, plenty of teams have had very good RS attackers, but I was talking about the incoming credentials of RS attackers and other than perhaps Nebraska or Texas, USC has been the only program to have a top 10 recruit or foreign phenom on the roster every single year that was a legit RS player (i.e. not a player they are just "trying out" and seeing if it fits). Scott and Whitney were not top 10 recruits. Anyway, my point being that almost no team has a star back up RS attacker (for depth) on the roster that can be 1st or 2nd in points on the team, and that almost no team in the country has had the consistent top talent on the RS that USC has had for well over a decade. Whether those players have seasons that meet the teams and fans expectations is a different story, but nobody can say that USC didn't have the horses on the RS in any given year.

I didn't say USC needs a star backup RS. That makes no sense. Two points I'm trying to make: 1) USC needs more depth at OPP given Ebony's departure. Last season there were few subbing options if Abercrombie had a poor match, 2) Ideally the starting OPP (or one of the RS attackers would be top 2 in KPG) whether that be Abercrombie, Krage, or even Johnson (unlikely), as a compliment to a star outside attacker. Last season, USC has been too left-centric in their attacking allowing opposing blockers to stack against them. Need to spread the opposing blockers. Mick obviously knows he needs a big time RS like Kaczor or Ebony. Hopefully Abercrombie will step up, but so far she hasn't reached the level to make USC truly competitive for a NT championship.

Looks like USC made it official with the signing of Krage: www.usctrojans.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/041516aaa.htmlPress release says she's an opposite so that gives Haley some depth behind Abercrombie. Plus she's listed at 6-4 so in addition to 6-2 Lanier and 6-5 Davis, the incoming class is pretty tall. Interesting that all four signees are from outside of the state of California though (AZ, TX, NE, IL). Some old offseason things as well ICYMI: Kennedy moves up to first assistant coach, Weindel promoted to full-time assistant, and former player/Olympian Nicole Davis joins as volunteer AC. Whittingham is also the only libero headed to China for the Pac12 All-Star Team. *Also, was that potential "big" transfer that was floating around here Shebby from Oregon? In the transfer thread it said she was looking at USC but couldn't get in because of credits.

For some reason, setter Baylee Johnson and middle blocker Rachel Reed are no longer listed on USC's 2016 roster (see website). Are they not playing this season, transferring or is the website incorrect? If Johnson doesn't play, that's a big blow to SC chances this season.

USC almost has more staff than players listed on their roster. Nobody added for their incoming class yet either.
