I'm not sure what drinking the kool-aid means, but I do know that Russ has not made any significant mention to lack of OH firepower issues this year as Phillytom mentions. Regarding Phillytom's lack of firepower comment, Frantti suffered from an early Sophomore slump, but I believe she will come back stronger next year.
BTW, I didn't know there was any other colored Kool-Aid. Elsewhere in the country, college players are generally thought/expected to make their greatest improvement between their freshman and sophomore year. Apparently at Penn St you're allowed to have a Sophomore slump and then pick it up the following year and improvement is assumed. Phillytom I believe is acknowledging that this is certainly not a given. Drink away. Saying I drink the Kool-Aid means I see rainbows and smell roses when someone mentions PSU. I simply don't agree with SOME of the analysis presented in this thread regarding this team's issues or how to improve PSU's play going forward. Although I'm a die hard fan, I'm NOT blind. I have been plenty critical of this team's play. Look up other posts I've made on VT before branding me a blind follower, because that's what drinking the Kool-Aid really means. I have a different view regarding making the team competitive, which you may not agree with and that's fine. The point of this forum is to discuss these issues in a civil manner; I try not to be judgmental of fellow members in my comments. I'm not against getting more big hitters, but first fix the issues that have plagued this team all season. Since the halfway point of the season, many PSU fans and I have discussed the back row problems - lack of consistent passing, digging, and communication. PSU needs those issues fixed before worrying about the hitting. Having said that, athlete's do have sophomore slumps. It's a common thing, not only in VB but in other sports. It happens in the pros as well. Ali Frantti carried this team in a few matches near the end of the season. I, certainly, am not going to bail on her now or in the future! PSU may lack a little depth at hitting, but we still have very good starters. And no one knows for sure what the bench players will bring as most have not played. We won't know what they can bring until next season, so it's a little premature to say that we won't have any depth.

RR had interest in the Tapp twins in HS and scouted them at a few tournaments. Never quite offered. In hindsight, wow.... what a mistake I'm sure he could say that almost every year he'd say he's missed out on some talent, in hindsight (20/20 thing an all). I've been wondering how that one 6'0" OH from FL (I think Schneider is her name) from MN didn't get recruited by Hugh and Co.? That's true. Every coach can say they wish they would've done something or other looking back on it. And I'm not sure Minnesota didn't recruit her. At the time Florida was maybe the more attractive offer. She'd be nice to have next year, but I'm confident Wilhite and Hart are going to do just fine!

You guys never won one and I'd like to see the Nat'l Championship trophy stay in the BIG10 family. If they beat TX, I think MN has the best shot at beating NE, since they did it back on 10/23 three sets to one at the Devaney.

I'm pretty sure there was another athlete from MN at one of the tourney schools whom I was thinking of. I'd be curious to know if MI's VB coach Mark Rosen tried to recruit her, although I'm getting a bit off topic here.

Did it ever occur to anyone that Frantti may not have been healthy most of the season? Good point. Russ did mention that there were some health issues this year but normally never reveals who is hurt or how long it'll be before and injured player returns, so fans are left to speculate.

Let's just say she wasn't the only one. However, I'm sure other teams had to deal with their own hurdles too. The girls fought to the end, kept their heads up and represented the University with a ton of class. Best of luck to the Seniors and next year to the returning veterans. Go State!

My source says that Demure was not brought in to play OH. Rose is very concerned about the setter position. That's not entirely surprising, if true. We're in trouble at a variety of positions. Somehow, recruiting fell apart here all at once. Girls need to step up and live up to their rankings quickly next season.

Had some poor luck with getting the big name transfers of late, probably simply because the girls already on the roster were plenty good. Definitely need some help, though, now. If Demure doesn't play OH, we definitely need some help at the pins. My source says that Demure was not brought in to play OH. Rose is very concerned about the setter position. I'm guessing that Boof is your "source"

Maybe Lexi Sun will decommit from Texas and transfer to Penn State?
