The 7 day mourning period is over, the All Americans have been honored, Haggerty is playing the futures match, let's get this rolling! Here's the link to Johndoe's roster post: volleytalk.net/thread/56937/wisconsin-2015?page=241Feel free to repost. I couldn't get the spreadsheet to come over when I copied the quote. Incoming freshmen are the MoDiDoDo's. Or Sarah and the 3 Ms. Take you pick. We got 9 months to settle on something. Competition for the libero - A-mac (recovering from wrist surgery) and Dodge (by all accounts). Other DS competition - Dixon, Dodd; let's throw Robbins and Juley in there. Players to watch: Duello, Saunders (what will happen between year 1 and 2) Offensive newcomer: Mo. Haggerty

Poor Duello will she ever get playing time other than her serve.

Poor Duello will she ever get playing time other than her serve. Yes. Duello just needed to be exposed to big-time situations, gain confidence, and adjust to the speed of the game; now she just needs reps. If she keeps pushing herself could really surpass Kriskova. Krushkova has a big arm and a variety of shots, but lacks consistency, like the rest of our OHs, will be no doubt focusing on it during spring and summer.

A general thought: I really like that our jr players are stepping out of their comfort zones and playing different roles on the court. Rettke played OH this year in high school. A 6'8 outside. Hi. Haggerty is playing RS this year for club ( she's already played setter and OH). It's great for their games and thus the team going forward.
I'm wondering if Shef may be thinking Mo can also take second balls, ala Thomas next season. I wouldn't say no.
I'm most concerned about out passing... I think out ds next year really needs to step up. I'm also wondering if Jordan steps in and takes this role... She's a good athlete

The only key player leaving is Morey.
It's Carlini's last shot at a title, and they are loaded. Top 3 in the preseason poll, probably picked 2nd in the BIG behind Nebraska (Hall and Fien are the only key losses, and Holman steps into Hall's spot).
Should be a great season in the Fieldhouse.

She's a good athlete I really doubt Molly will be as effective as Court was in that role. Court was the starting setter before Carlini after all, and Molly hasn't run an offense in quite some time, and certainly not at this level. We will have a lot of players vying for roles in the backrow next year. It's a change from this year when it was Morey And AMac or nothing.

I'm not sure if Duello will ever really be successful at Wisconsin. She's not too athletic or jumps real high. From what I've seen she's more successful with a slower set and uses her height to get kills not necessarily her vertical.

Do the Badgers ever do summer tours in Europe or Asia? They used to. I don't know when was the last time though. Seems like many moons ago.

Well, all I know is that Sheff thinks Madison has a high ceiling. He doesn't use that phrase that often or lightly. He's never really used it for Nelson, which is all the more credit to Haleigh. It is easy to simply extrapolate from what we have seen so far, which isn't much. I say give her a spring and summer to prepare, and lets see what happens in the coming season.

I'm sure Sheff has told Madison what she needs to work on to earn playing time. So she will work on it this spring. It's up to her.

I think they went to Europe in 2008. It seems like the model has changed, and instead a handful of individuals go off to specialized training camps in Europe and Asia instead. IIRC it was Bates and Morey last summer. I think Gillis might have been there too.
I am not worried about Duello. She found a way into the lineup that was unconventional, which shows me she is going to continue to work to improve her gsme. She improved her defense in that limited role, so she's already developed another tool. And it helped Gillis tremendously as well as she took off after she no longer served regularly so it was a great contribution to the team. Duello has her own mini me fan following her which is probably keeping her motivated too!
As for "slow sets" Kriskova and Gillis appear to prefer that too and Carlini was able to make that adjustment about 1/3 of the way through.

I think her game will spead up and she will get to showcase that arm soon. Maybe it will be this year or maybe next but I think she's capable.

Molly is a more natural hitter and a better hitter, but yes. Who knows how well she can set a second ball at this level... I have to think her playing right side this year at club has some implications for her possible role at UW tho. Will be fun to see where she goes.
