You're not serious about the sport until you start recruiting beach-only athletes. When is Nebraska going to do that?

Nebraska will be in Hawaii from March 17-20 playing Hawaii, USC, and LMU. Next they go to Long Beach to face LBSU on March 24th. Then they will travel to Malibu to play Pepperdine and Cal Poly on March 25th. Could not find any other dates but some schedules have not been posted yet so there may be more matches.

Thanks, vballfreak808! Tough schedule! 4 of those teams finished in the top 5 last season (USC, LBSU, Hawaii, and Pepp)!! I figure Nebraska's seasons will only last about 10 days again, until they can schedule some teams to play in Lincoln. It would be nice if there were other Midwestern schools to compete with to minimize travel costs. Once that happens, maybe then we can start thinking about Beach-exclusive recruiting/staffing. I think Nebraska is still a few years (or more) from a fully-fledged Beach program. For now, it's just good practice for our indoor team, and a little extra treat for the fans.

Crawfish's comment made me laugh a bit - how could anyone think that a beach team with either one of the great all-around playing Rolfzen twins ever become awesome on the sand as well? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

National Champions and still no respect? B!tch, please. You might want to re-read the comment. I was reading based on tone... Thought it sounded sarcastic. Hope I'm wrong though! If so, my apologies!

Great to see them continue to grow the beach schedule.
No one could say it's hurting the indoor team but perhaps helping with ball control & cross training.
With JWO & a solid big that pair could give anyone a run for their money on the beach.

You're not serious about the sport until you start recruiting beach-only athletes. When is Nebraska going to do that? Nebraska is competing at a top level in both. Let them worry about it. It's easy to say they are very serious about being successful on the beach and the court. They'll do it their way. It'll be fun to watch beach volleyball grow just like regular volleyball.

Just for fun, I'll update my pair predictions. No. 1 | Wong-Orantes/Holman No. 2 | Hunter/K. Rolfzen No. 3 | A. Rolfzen/Albrecht No. 4 | Maloney/Foecke No. 5 | Townsend/Reeves Alternate | Smith/Atherton Similar to what I had before, but I tweaked it a little bit. First thing's first (No. 1 & No. 2): -Wong-Orantes/Holman brings finesse, ball control, height, and experience. Likely No. 1 pair, IMO. -Hunter/Kadie were very good last year in the 2 slot, finishing 8-3 together, which was tied for the best pair Winning % on the team last season. (Pair records from last season can be found here) 3's: -I originally had Foecke filled in at No. 3, but then I looked at Anni's record with Cici last season, and they were 8-3, tying Hunter/Kadie for the best Winning % (granted, Albrecht/Hall was our No. 4 pair last season, but still a great record). I think Anni moves into the 3 spot, pairing with Amber. 4's: -I have our stud freshman pairing together to make our No. 4 pair. Maloney/Foecke. This should be a really strong pair as it is, and in the No. 4 slot, this pair will be successful, with the combination of ball control and height. I like Maloney/Foecke at No. 4. Beyond 4, there are lots of variables and question marks. Also, we're still waiting on an official roster to break, so there may be a possibility of Boender or Haggerty stepping in to play this season. We shall see. Any word on that would be great!

Great article about JWO & Coach Cook on Husker.com regarding Beach volleyball and how it makes you a better all around skills player.
Coach Cook has it right. The sport aguments indoor skills not hurt them. It is no coincidence that setters make excellent beach players and the outdoor skills help make them better indoor setters as well, imho.
