First and foremost, we have to be thankful and feel fortunate that Beach Volleyball is now an NCAA sport. The growth can continue as I anticipate it will until the point the NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championships are on of the top 4 most watched NCAA Championships, right up there with basketball, volleyball and football. In fact, I think it will make prime time on a major network before the indoor game will, for sure. My question though, and it's a question we involved in the sport have all had since we heard it to be true, why has the NCAA done away with the pairs portion of the championship for beach volleyball ? In NCAA tennis, there is a pairs and a singles champion crowned, in NCAA golf, there is an individual champion crowned, same with track and field with all their individual champions crowned, yet no pairs champion in beach volleyball ? Let's hope the pairs championship comes back next year, even if it's run as a separate tournament as its' unfair to the sport, and to the athletes not to identify by competition the single best doubles team in the NCAA in a given year.
