Really glad to see this happening. I don't know if it was ever in doubt, or if that was just a message board rumor, but I am eager for another season of the NVL. Just wish they could settle differences with the AVP. Surely Donald Sun has to have seen they are no threat by now and the NVL could provide a way for the players on the AVP to supplement their meager incomes.

I am on the exact same page, guest2. I think both organizations have had enough time to realize that it will be tough to thrive with the current set up. I believe the only way for beach volley to gain momentum will be to merge the NVL and AVP together and have all of those who are passionate about the sport working together. Both organizations have their strengths, and I think they would complement each other very well.

Agreed. The NVL should market themselves as a "semi-pro" league or feeder tour for the AVP. This would definitely expand their participation and in turn provide more revenue. Sadly, this will never happen because the AVP (Donald Sun) and the NVL (Al B) both have huge egos and won't let it happen. On a side note, I noticed there is no prize money advertised that I could see........huh.

Both parties have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into their efforts. But one might hope that the same so-so results (little to no growth in # of tourneys, participation, sponsorship, prize money, etc) over the last 3-4 years might put those egos in check and motivate these guys to identify new paths forward. Probably won't happen, but for the sake of the sport, I wish it would.

Maybe a little rivalry among the tours is a good thing.
The NVL may be smaller and with a weaker pool of talent, but I like the way they promote their players / are getting involved with the juniors circuit. I truly believe if they continue to do so and slowly build their attendance from event to event, the AVP may get a rude reality check that having the 'names' in the sport isn't enough to generate interest, and that they have to do a little more legwork to get the casual fan both in the stands as well as educated on the storylines. I've been hoping from Day 1 that Donald Sun would use his salaries for players to actually make them get their hands dirty and get involved with the local communities of the tour stops more aggressively, perhaps this will open the door to have that happen (even if it's a year or two down the road).
