What money do you think Nebraska Beach VB has made in those 4 years? Until more Midwest teams start forming, and until Nebraska has beach-specific scholarships and coaches, Nebraska's seasons are going to be ~2 weeks. Building a brand new facility is a big commitment. Nebraska's Beach program simply isn't worth that investment yet.

If John really wanted outdoor courts, he would have had them built already - and he could have it done at about 1/50th the twenty million Nebraska just spent on facilities for two other negative revenue sports (tennis and soccer). Building a legitimate NCAA beach volleyball program isn't nearly as interesting to him as using the beach season for additional conditioning/training time for the indoor team. That's not a condemnation, BTW, as he's operating within the rules as they are currently written. I really hope that JC moves the beach program forward, but right now my gut feeling is that there likely won't be a Nebraska beach program say five years from now.
As for the Missouri Baptist match, a D-1 program can schedule one match per season against an NAIA team, so that's legit. But the rules are pretty specific about minimum number of courts needed for an official NCAA match (two), and that the matches be played outdoors unless player safety is at risk. Maybe Cook got some special dispensation or something. Beats me.

Anywho, I agree with Geddy - schools like Nebraska make a ton of coin in athletics, they could have a state of the art beach facility for probably the same price the weight room for the football team costs. Not sure how beach volleyball works, but I'm sure Missouri Baptist got a nice payout for playing Nebraska - not sure if Nebraska got anything more than a good tune up for its players

Would an outdoor court in Nebraska make sense? The beach season is from March to May, but training and practice occur, I believe, nearly every month for the beach-only players. I don't know Nebraska weather but I like to think that Nebraska March to May months are still cold and rain quite often. I can't see an outdoor beach court in the Midwest simply because of the weather conditions. Someone correct me re. the weather.

The Nebraska weather fluctuates from year; last year was nice mid March on. The year before we had snow in May and I had to scramble to get my tomatoes covered up! So far this year looking pretty good! If the beach program is to grow; the Huskers will probably need an indoor/outdoor facility! It is getting to be pretty popular so I hope it goes that way! Does anyone know if Hunter Atherton is going to travel with the Huskers tomorrow? I noticed that she doesn't have a jersey number yet! GO HUSKERS

My guess is that UNL upsets UH in duals this weekend. UH is banged up already, possibly (#1 pairs team; indoor's week-long practice for Iowa State; somewhat clueless? coaches--I say as respectfully as able). The Bows are ripe for the picking.

NE will have more cash to spend on sports in the "red" after the B1G's new TV contract goes into effect in 2017 (when they receive a full share). If they still want to have a beach team then I see them building something at that point. They should have space on the Innovation Campus site.
