Kind of disappointed in the results so far (Tuesday - March 15 2016) with this team.....Is it ME? (Rather, who is the "anvil" in this arrangement)? No complimentary skills? I was expecting big things from Summer but we know it takes 2 . . . . If you've seen them recently, any "observations"?

Neither scrambles well enough in points throughout the match to win. You control their first attack or they lose ball control they just aren't very good players or team.

I loved Summer since she and Jane Croson played together as kids...but I'm so disappointed in the past 2 seasons. She's so slow and her partners are not helping her improve either. Wish someone more successful would have taken her under her wings and "show her the way". Maybe Jen Kessy should have picked her?

Watch the other Ross play, then watch Summer. That will tell you all you need to know. Summer has good skills and size, but she is a poor athlete (jump, speed) and seems to lack competitive fire. Three years ago she and Emily burst on the scene with some great finishes internationally and domestically.
Since then she has had one good finish in three years (Rio last year). This season will tell, but so far it looks like Summer is a lot like those 6'10 guys who dominate AAU, then get to the pros and have to face athletes as good as themselves. Then they learn they dont know how to train or give consistent maximum effort.

On paper this pair looked good to me.
Summer can reach a little longer to help with that slower first step. She is much leaner and stronger now (still young).
Lane is a stud that can play defense, set & hit. I haven't really seen them play much so I cannot comment on what might look out of place.
Still a chance to shine this year as there is plenty of talent. Who is coaching them now?

guest2: Yeah, facing this international competition, month in month out must be a toil and you find it "ain't no AVP event"... Not that there is anything wrong with the AVP, but when you face the world's best, rather than the USs' best, the litmus test is done....Oh well, thought she would fare better...(Summer; not too familiar with Laine yet)...

Last time I saw her she was looking rather paleā¦..she needs a partner that is going to mentor her, push her, improve her game - right now she has none of that.

Its weird, they beat Britt & Jen in the CQ in Rio GS, then lose to a team in the 1st rd of the Q. The FIN girls they lost to this week made it out of Pool Play. they beat Karla Borger / Britta Buthe in Maceio, but don't get out of pool.
Def. a mess.

At this point every US women's player, beyond the Olympics, has to figure they are competing to be April's partner if and when Kerri retires right?
I dont even have an inkling now who that would be, Fopma maybe. Already preparing to see the best, or maybe second best, player in the world lose every weekend because we cant produce another world class player.
If I were Kelly Claes, I would up my workout schedule

Unless someone emerges the way Kessey did, there is no one in the current group of US players that is good enough or young enough. Its April and the seven dwarves (no offense Brooke)

Fendi/Ross would be a good pairing but they need to keep Aprils coach. I am thinking Ross and Ross with Aprils coach.

I like Lauren because she seems like someone who is really passionate, but shes 33 and has had very little success in her career. I think she is not quite as good as Fopma. As great as April is, I think that team might win one Open a year at best.

Reeves might be the next good big..
Claes & Hughes can beat AR/JF on a good day so I don't see that team conquering the world at large.
