BLOCKING
02 team did a better job blocking. Jen Carey up front made the difference.
Of this years top teams, I think Hawaii had the most untouched or weakest touched kills coming across the net. This caused the year long passing problem. With the speed & velocity of the kills, the backrow did an amazing job.
Also there wasn't much difference in the setting. If Dave allowed Jen & Margaret to set the 02 middles & RS as he let Kanoe set the 03, their productions would be the same, at least.

Yeah Jen Carey made a huge difference up front blocking. I mean Kanoe is a great blocker considering her size, but Carey was huge for us in the front row. I mean I remember the Nebraska match where she actually led our team in blocks that night.

Hedder Ilustre in the defensive scheme with Lily Kahumoku, Kim Willoughby and Melissa Villaroman. This year, aside from Lily, Kim and Melissa, the only other defensive player is Ashley Watanabe. And she plays VERY sparingly, unlike last year's Ilustre who used all three backrow rotations.

What exactly are you trying to say because the middle and the right sides for the most part were the same. And of course Lily and Kim? And IMO the setting this year was much better then last years setting. Kanoe did an excellent job this year.

I'm thinking if Dave had to hold back Kanoe this year and make her go to Lily & Kim more, then he was even more strict with Jen & Margaret last year. I thought this because he said Jen set the mid. & RS better, but Jen played with only 2 hitters while Margaret had 3. This is one reason I thought the mid. & RS were less of a priority in 02 than 03.

I think 03 team had more heart and emotion in their game. I mean look at how Duggins became this year. and or Rigth side attack was at its best this year with Tano

Hawaii has got to have more of a physical presence at the right side next year. They need to have a weapon like Jenny Roberts a few years back. Tano was effective but I would never label her as a threat or a weapon.

Tano was effective but I would never label her as a threat or a weapon. She was enough of a threat for Hawaii to run what they needed to do, but I agree with what you are saying. Compared to other teams, Hawaii had a weak right side, where the player wasn't a huge offensive threat. Players like Robinson or Ivy were offensive threats as well as great blockers. I hope that Hawaii brings in some true right side hitters.

Hawaii hasn't had a true right-side hitter since Jenny Wilton right? Jenny Roberts was recruited as a middle blocker, Willoughby was recruited as a left-side, and Tano was brought in as a middle blocker.
