Well, despite the fact that MBO is going on, NVL held all their top teams and still have 29 in the Q (Men's) very Florida heavy.
Will be interesting to see how Cabbage and Moran do. Cabbage has made it into 2 AVP MD this year. They do have a decent Q draw, they are in with the #1seed, but that team is just a very good FL team, not great. Usually finish in the 3-5 range of a quality open. They will meet 2nd match and if they win that they'll get in.
On the women's side, they have 18 in their Q which isn't bad either considering. They did lose their last stop's champion to the AVP, via AVP Next, plus 2 other Main draw teams aren't there.

Yep looks like Cabbage going the Skylar route and saying "I can make more money wining or finishing top 3 on the NVL then grinding out AVP 13th's, 9th's etc."

Looks like what could have been a really good first round match between DelSol/Marciniak vs Cabbage/Moran never materialized as Moran hurt his leg or his back and they forfeited 2nd game.

Did Mallen or Mesko go down too? 21-1,21-1

Not sure what happened with Mallen and Mesko. Moran did hurt his back and they ended up forfeiting the 2nd game. Not sure if they are done for the day or not. He did it in the first 5 points of the first game and tried to play through it the rest of the game. Just an ugly no rhythm time stalling game.

Probably watch NVL a little more than everyone else here - I think it's really high quality volleyball with some of the better teams, obviously not AVP level quality but with watching the bigger matches of some of these better teams, Del Sol really stands out as the best player on the court time and time again. Kid is just absolutely explosive in all aspects of the game and I'm sure the packed down sand of these mainland venues helps him but he's fun to watch.
I've watched Zaun a few games this tournament and something just seems off about him. Maybe he hasn't played as much this year, he's still a hell of a good player but it just feels like he's missing something this year as opposed to last year.

I love Andy and tarny on the live stream. Andy did great job all weekend. Andy

Here's what is good about watching NVL tourneys in person. Very few fans to compete for good viewing positions with. Some of the players are just plain fun to watch, and I agree that the level of play, mostly on the men's side, can be very, very good. Watching guys like Robbins bomb jumpers and have fun out there is pretty unique to the NVL. A few of the men's top teams could seemingly do some damage on the AVP? Lots more jawing at the refs, and they seem to let the players get away with an awful lot of crap. The emotions were running high during the Mesko/Mallin v. Palm/Zaun match - seemed like they were really hating each other, and the disputes about the blocker moving around right before his partner serves and the poor calling of hand sets were actually correct, I thought. Here is the bad. The night play lighting was absolutely atrocious at the Flanagan's venue - I have no idea why they would not simply play during the off times of 1 pm til 5 pm instead of making them play with that crappy lighting. The courts are all packed into a small space, so there is maybe 8-10 feet available behind each end line, making it was really difficult to do a normal jump serve. Watching through the black netting sucks, and this supposedly cool venue, with a swim up pool bar and a huge inside bar/grill area, had one food choice - cardboard pizza. No idea why Al and company thought this was a better place that the Water Park in Cincinnati, but it clearly was not. Great weather on Friday, but again, why not just play all day instead of no matches from 1-5? Ladders for the single ref at many matches, and some of them actually did not even have a ladder to stand on. And the women's play, which I actually generally enjoy watching more than the men's matches, seems to be a fairly major step below the men's play in terms of how it might compare to the AVP level. Not sure Batt-Rohr/Plantadosi-Lima or any of the other top teams would come close to sniffing a main draw on the AVP - sorry to say that, but it seems pretty accurate. All in all, I enjoy some of the NVL tourneys, but would not go back to Columbus if they have it at Flanagan's again, but just my humble opinion!
