I was reading a story about Todd's retirement and it got me thinking which of the current players will be remembered the way we think of Karch, Kent, Rego, Ricardo, Randy etc.
I dont mean players like Frohoff or Reinder that have a good number of wins but never dominated, but players that were consistently in the top 4 or 5 guys.
Right now on the men's side the active players I think should be included are:
Phil Allison Todd Bruno
Players with a good shot: Evandro Samilovs - if he can get a Varenhorst type partner.
As I was thinking of this it really occurred to me how much parity there is now and how rare real dominance is becoming

Allison has shown some cracks recently. Bruno is going over on 2 a lot to bail him out and he seems tight even when setting. Could be a phase but I wouldn't count him in the HOF just yet.

I think he is already there. He has 20 wins and has been part of a couple dominant teams. Multiple wins in 5 different years and two years where he won half the events (more or less) He's only one FIVB behind Todd

Fair point, although given the gold medal match in question there is a hair-thin difference between Todd's Gold and Allison's silver, and I think it mainly has to do with partner quality.

If Tri Bourne becomes the best US player for the next ten years that could get him into that elite company. A lot would have to happen in order for him to achieve that much success - an equally great partner to help him sustain a period of dominance, a domestic tour which lasts and probably adds a few more events, international success... Taylor Crabb could also possibly be that guy if he continues to improve.

That team might have some potential, and Bourne should have enough FIVB points to keep them out of the qualifier most weekends.

I agree! Taylor and Tri are probably the best young combination the USA could put together for 2020.

I think because he is so massive people think he is taller than he actually is, but he gives up a good amount of height to a lot of blockers on tour. A little Gibb-esque that way

A little Gibb-esque that way I like the fire he is playing with, (hate that it had come against USA so early) to me, quite a few teams/athletes from Brazil have wilted under the home pressure. Alison seems to be picking up his intensity. Also, I think his setting is underrated.
