I was wondering, could all the cases of mismanagement for Rio, such as security problems, unhygienic and malfunctioning athletes village and unready facilities actually be a "home field" advantage for Brazil? At least for volleyball?
Maybe the press has exaggerated things and its really not so bad. Or maybe it is really as bad as reported. Either case, I doubt the Brazilians are happy about this themselves. But maybe they are used to this, they expect these problems. Therefore, it does not really affect them as much as other teams? So could this even be a "home field" advantage for Brazil?

The crowd will be sober and well behaved. Given all the things going on (or going wrong-depending on how you look at it), I think the crowd might well be the least of their worries.

Heard in the news that the Chinese men basketball team was greeted with a gunfight between rival gangs on their way from the airport to the athlete village. Heck of a welcome to the city, I'll say.

For all the stories the press sensationalizes, there are accounts like Alisha Glass' that tell about the wonderful experience she's having. Rio and Brazil are unlike any other place on earth. They are welcoming, warm and fun-loving to a fault. The country has its problems, but who thought a developing country was going to host this event without any issues?!?!? Not the IOC. Apparently just the press and those who jump into the sea after the press tells them to.
