Rio competition has officially commenced! As you know, soccer needs more days of rest, and so the Rio '16 woso tourney started today, before the Opening Ceremony. (It always does that.) As of Wed 08/03, 5.5 woso matches are in the books, and Rio'16 is working! They were like any other big-time FIFA woso matches. Brasil knows how to host a soccer match. - Flawless organization (no anthem faux, spelled Colombia correctly)
- Nice fields (nice weather)
- Zimbabwe scored on Germany (but lost 1-6)
- USA didn't lose
Drawbacks: - Empty seats. Sometimes a lot of them.
- These matches aren't actually in Rio proper (they're scattered all over Brasil, c.f. WC'14). A pessimist might say: there's still time for Rio itself to suck --
Maybe the Rio doomsaying has been ... overblown for drama. Anyhow, Rio '16 is happening! And so far it looks good!

Maybe the Rio doomsaying has been ... overblown for drama. Wait for the open water events.
