It doesn't look like Russell has mastered the float serve yet, with the height he hits the ball at he should be able to drive it a bit more but it looks like it's either a very easy serve in or a miss long. We need an OH1 and Sander is the only of the 4 that seems to really be able to do that so if he struggles all tournament we will struggle I think.

I didn't think Sander was as bad as some are saying. He rarely got in systems sets, he blocked well, and his defense and serve receive was ok. I thought our setting was rough, too many tight sets, timing was off too often, and we were predictable.

Take a look at the stat line. 4 kills/16 swings/6 errors 0 blocks 2 rebound's 0 digs He was the weakest Passer of the 3. I believe in Taylor and I'm confident he will play well Tuesday but today he was not close to what we needed from and OH1 Yes, Micah wasn't his best today either. Both will bring it against Italy. We will win.

When was the last time he hit negative? Hopefully this was just an aberration.

What did you think of the setting? Not concerned. Serving and passing are my main concerns. We need someone who can step up to the service line and run off 5 points. And second, we need steady passing so we can get our middles more involved. Setting is not an issue, IMO. Yep, same here. The only exception for me is the majority of the first set, where Micah got the middles involved frequently.

Off topic kinda ... has Micah changed the way he readies his hands right before setting the ball? He takes the ball high still but it seems like he has his hands small with his finger tips almost facing each other (bad description I know) and not in the shape of the ball.

Not sure why Jashchke wasn't given a shot today. Sander was awful. Maybe troy would have given the team a boost. Yeah something needed to be done Sander was not getting it done. I haven't seen official numbers but at one time during the match he was 3 for 12. I say put Thomas in. If Sander isn't doing it, it's not like we don't have anyone on the bench. If you pulled Sander (which shouldn't happen yet) , I would think you move Russell to the OH1. He is attacking so well from everywhere on the court...and needs to jump serve if I haven't mentioned that. Ultimately when Sander starts playing like we know he can the stars will align.

Not sure why Jashchke wasn't given a shot today. Sander was awful. Maybe troy would have given the team a boost. Anderson had 13 kills and 2 blocks. What more could Troy have done? The US lost by a total of 12 points. In the Olympic box score our advantage in aces offsets Canada's scoring edge blocking, but Canada led 28-16 (+12) in "Opponents Errors" which I'd assume encompases our serving errors. Anderson to left, Troy to Opp. Hello.

Heck, this team is plenty capable of going 4-1 the rest of the way in pool A.
We get our serving going and it will change a lot.

However, based On these contents, i can only underline some of the things that I've been posting here. There are things that doesn't change in few weeks, poor passing, bench doubtful choices. Speraw is blowing what he have been built with great merit. Só, lets hope that now On we will have the USA team that Won in Japan. Quite possible, yes, with adequate focus and energy. A loss against Italy it is almost a bye bye Rio.

I don't follow indoor as much as sand, but I don't really get the hype on the men's indoor team. They just don't look that good im comparison to other World Class teams. I watched their world league finals and this was more of the same, terrible first ball contact control and getting dominated at the net. When our starters couldn't even beat Brazil's second team I wasn't really getting the hype at all. Canada was better in every category. Maybe this team is just young I don't know but it just isn't a very good team. They've been slumping this season. They didn't look good in WL especially in the final round. This team had won World Cup beating some tough teams and also won WL in 2014 over Brazil. They've always been a bit vulnerable in first contact (Speraw seemingly willing to favor firepower on the pins over ball control). Perhaps he'll have to go with a ball control lineup (Priddy and Jaeschke) if the team continues to shank. But as others have alluded, if Sander has a bad tournament, the US has little shot to medal.

Replace Russell with Jaeschke, leave Sander in. But if Sander doesn't sort things out, then I think Priddy can get the job done. With Jaeschke hitting bics and Anderson hitting Ds, we don't really need firepower from Priddy, just ball control and leadership. Those he can still do.

For years now our serving has been absolutely awful and speraw has done nothing to fix this or prepare them. There's a total lack of purpose and confidence when they serve, it's like they just go back there and just unload then pray it will go in or over the net.

No, I meant both assuming both Russel and Sander are shanking. I'm surprised Sander is struggling. Maybe it's just nerves. I realize Priddy + Jaeschke tandem probably wont work in the long run. Sander needs to get his game in order. All the medal contenders have at least two elite pin hitters. The US needs Sander to play at his full potential.
