You add up Alessia Orro (setter) who is also 17.. future looks bright for Italy.

Italy down 2 sets to 0 and down 6-3 in the 3rd. Man, Italy may just lose the first 2 games of this Rio Games to sweeps.

Italy will not make it past pool play if they loose to China. Calling it now.

Netherlands looks like a better team than Italy right now. Its going to be difficult to get past the pool play for the Italians. Still has to face Netherlands, USA and PR.

Italy is done. Down 16-11 in the 3rd set. Egonu looks tired and not getting any help from the other players.

Egonu, like a lot of young athletic players, doesn't have anything but hard hits and tips. She needs to learn how to adjust to less than perfect sets... that is killing her right now ... that and the fact that the italians can't serve.

China sweeps Italy -21 -21 -16
Looks like the starting setter (or back up opposite) for China is hurt.

I'm watching the replay now... I don't understand Sylla, at all. Orro and Egonu are still too young IMO; loaded with potential but not quite sure they are at this level of play yet.
China isn't doing anything spectacular, playing low-error ball and giving the Italians enough rope to hang themselves.
I can definitely see Italy not making it out of pool-play.

Orro's injury really derailed an Italy with a lot of momentum this summer. It's clear she's still a little rusty. Lo Bianco shows her greatness on occasion, but I don't think she can make it through a full tournament, and Italy IMO really needs Orro's athleticism at this moment.
I don't like Ortolani on the left either. It seems to be an Italian Olympic tradition to play at least 1 pin in the wrong place.

I understand why they don't want her in reception, but I'd say she fits into that out of position pin category as well.

I'd be comfortable betting on Italy not advancing. They need to win matches and the only one I see them winning is vs. PR. But let's see how the Netherlands continues to play.
