Wednesday at 2:00pm ET. stream.nbcolympics.com/volleyball-womens-preliminary-match-15Following a scare against the Netherlands, I believe this will be USA's toughest test of pool-play (Italy is a huge ? and they know China really, really well). This is who is in Serbia's starting lineup: Top 3 setter in the world Top 3-4 MB in the world Top 5 serving/attacking OH in the world Top 5 OPP in the world (and a very experienced world-class OPP on the bench) They are so, so tough and physical; prone to SR breakdowns and aren't a necessarily mentally tough team. When one aspect of their game is not going well, they're capable of digging themselves into even deeper holes elsewhere in their game. I would really like to see USA get the win 3-0 , 3-1 ... but that's a lot to ask. Keys to this match? Will containing Mihajlovic break things wide open for Boscovic to take over and shred the American defense? Vice-versa? I think not allowing Rasic to score at will through the middle and establishing the block on the pins would be the best strategy : which would mean that our serve needs to be back in top form.

I love this Serbian team. Boscovich is 19 years old. absurd. If they are on, Serbia is better offensively. We have to beat them with defense and our heads, keep composure..play fast. Who starts at middle for us? Who's our OPP? do we go smaller and faster?

I'm not sure anyone expected Murphy to have such a Midas touch as she did today. If we get 85% of what she did today that will be great. It will be a battle for sure but I think going through an emotional and physical match like today's did a lot for our teams competitive and mental state. I actually think we may come out with a 3 or 4 game win. As a fan of physical volleyball, I think it could be a showcase.

Anyone notice that Serbia has basically abandoned the slide with the Rasic/Veljkovic lineup? They're scary enough on the D, and Ognjenovic is offensive enough, that they're still spreading the court decently.

Just watched Serbia's olympic matches and wow.. Very physical and dominant. Their setter is GOLD. She can actually backset on a bad pass and why wouldn't she with her MONSTER OPP. They don't have much middle offense though but they don't need it with their pin hitters. They are also very good blockers. USA will have to pass well .. If they play the way they did against Netherlands I don't think they have a chance. Looking forward to this match!

So who would you put the money on to win this match? US or Serbia?

This is a win for the USA if:
They serve like they did during the GP tournament. Their ace to air ratio is horrendous.
They have more accurate sets so that they spike more and tip less especially Larson.
The middles get some medium high fast sets.
They increase the zone 2 attacks by Murphy. They don't seem to have a pipe play for either Hill or Larson.
They improve on their out of system kill percentage.
They improve their strategic substitution patterns.
This could be another five setter.
I've seen both Mihajlovic and Boskovic held to todays, Sloejte style, performance in Turkish league so they can be neutralized by good blocking and a lot of forced, out of system attacks.

If Mihajlovic and Boscovic keep up their performances; U.S.A could be in trouble.
This is the match I've been anticipating...

We need to serve well and be disciplined blocking and make sure we take away the right sections of the court on the pin hitters and back row makes transitionable digs. If we could pass at an even higher rate that would help too.. Would also like to see Murphy get more sets as long as they are high enough she won't risk dragging it into the block. Thankfully she has been good at adjusting to bad sets.

Surely the US won't lose...will they... This is just weird, reading all his previous comments about USA and how good and invincible the team is and how vulnerable China in these games and yet your username is Ironhammer or Lang Ping? And now this. Creepy.
