A narrow range? Sharp cross court, deep cross court, line.. Deep middlle.. Off the block... Pretty varied. It all depends on the set location and where the opposing block lines up on her. I feel like any of our pins assume the seam will be there too much and that's why they get blocked. Just try to blast it though... Murphy is extremely predictable. That's what gives her such a narrow range. Really? Until yesterday she was leading the tournament in hitting percentage. She makes plays, she might not be a dominant hitter but none of our pins our. I guess I still don't understand what people want from her. She is the best we have right now. Accept it.

That's what gives her such a narrow range. What I consider her "range limit" is more her hitting window. If the tempo or location of the set is not where expected, she is not great at adjusting her approach angle or timing. She occasionally pushes over a ball that other opps would hit, and nearly stumbled on hitting a couple of imperfect sets in early matches. When the set is in her hitting window, I agree that she has the ability to hit to all areas of the court with power.

The whole Murphy/Lowe/Any RS argument isn't that strange to me. Clearly Murphy is the next best we got and she is pretty good. She is not explosive as some of the other OPP other teams have but she does her job well. As for Lowe drawing any conclusion about her ability to play is ridiculous considering Lowe is only in for a rotation before being pulled. My biggest problem with them both is they lack the ability to block well. Murphy plays over Lowe cause she is the better passer I feel and has more shots. The RS position is a real question mark for the US, we don't really have a pipeline of fantastic OPP hitters coming out of college ready to jump into the position either. Wonder who will make the team in Tokyo?
The way I see it though we are still in very good position. We have a very good shot at Gold as it stands.

Also did you guys notice that Lloyd sets Murphy slightly higher and she hits the sets better. I thought it was really interesting how much better the connection was between those two vs Murphy and Glass. However, it seems like she will be okay with either setter. Sometimes Glass sets get pretty erratic at times. I'd stumble too trying to hit it lol

Of course, but saying she's predictable and she's this and she's that... well the stats prove otherwise. The match against Serbia wasn't her best but it wasn't horrible either. Give her more quality attempts and lets see what happens. Right now that hasn't happened.

Congrats to US for the win. I was especially pleased with Adams and Hill's performance. That block by Hill in the first set was great. The second set was rather shaky with some reception problems. But the US recovered well in the next 2 sets. I think I can make a safe prediction that the US will prevail against China and Italy. The Chinese are way too inconsistent to be a serious threat. They can't handle pressure. The Italians are done and low in spirit after losing 3 straight matches. They are not a serious threat. So that means the US will be number 1 in Pool B. Who will they face in the knock-out stage? Does italy have their stud OH from last years U20 WC? She was an incredible athlete, curious to see her at this level. I think the Italians are finished either way. They've been throughly outplayed in every way so far by their opponents. Provided the US don't commit major errors, the US should be able to win.
