I cringe asking this but in pools of 6 with 4 advancing what do we need to happen if we:
Beat Brazil, France and Mexico 3-2: I assume in?
Beat France and Mexico 2-4:
Beat Brazil and Mexico 2-4:

? France is very vulnerable too. Currently based on record/impression based on round 2.....if Brazil beats Canada. 1. Brazil 2. Italy 3. Canada 4. France 5. USA 6. MEXICO So in theory we lost to the 2 and 3 seed. I have no reason to think that France is in any better mental position than our Men. Canada is a hot team and can beat France. Then it may only come down to that France/Mexico match for us. Take the 4th seed and play the #1 seed in pool B... Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/65021/usa-men-italy#ixzz4GsFTF6WI

It really only takes France losing to either Brazil or Canada and us. (Depending on set scenarios). Canada can still also go 2-4 and end up with a worse set record than us.

This is great!
Also possible is that Canada loses steam.
Canada 2-3 win over US/mex 3-0,3-0 USA 2-3 win over France/Mex 3-1,3-0 France 2-3 win over Canada/Mex 3-1,3-0
Getting a 2-3 loss at least against Brazil might be deciding factor.
How about we just run the table and go 3-2......enough of this baloney.

Taking 2 sets against Brazil would be huge for both motivation and qualification. We can do it. We were top 3 in 2015--Gold at WC and Bronze at WL in 2015.

France doesn't even have to lose to both Canada and Brazil. They can beat Canada in this scenario and we would still be above them with equal points.

France is about to sweep Canada easily. That doesn't seem good for us.

France is about to sweep Canada easily. That doesn't seem good for us. It's actually really good. This could leave both of them at the end at 2-3 match record (Canada Beats Mexico, loses to Italy, France loses to USA and Brazil). This would mean we would have 2 teams where it would come down to tiebreakers rather than one (Assuming we lose to Brazil tonight).

The problem is, we can now beat France and still not be in for sure.

Or Canada completely collapses and loses to mexico.
Each have 1 win......then even if we lose to France it again comes down to sets...
That is crazy thinking

I mean yes, this is a good point, the easiest way for us to be in would have been France going 1-4 but I wouldn't have counted on that.
