It probably has something to do with Hillary Clinton's email server.

I was going to make a joke about Cal, but I like mikegarrison's response better.

But seriously, what is affecting her performance? Why isn't Mark Spitz still winning gold medals, anyway?

On the CBUT coverage, they said she had a back injury.

There was a great article about her and the NCAA and how because she can't hire an agent that her dad took a year off work just to "manage" her. Her years at Cal swimming under NCAA rules have severely hampered her preparation for these olympics, but as I remember her being a part of a team has always been more important to her than individual accomplishments so I'm sure she wouldn't change a thing

She can't win a medal, because she can't play volleyball....isn't this a volleyball forum?

People have kicked around a lot of stuff about college (where the team needed her to swim strokes/races other than her premier events), her parents running her endorsements/scheduling, pressure, etc. But to me the most obvious answer is a physical one. In mid-2014, Franklin began suffering from severe back spasms, and that injury basically aligns with her drop off in international results. While she says she feels fine, I suspect that she hasn't been able to regain the technical form that she had before the back spasms. Even if she has fully healed, the spasms likely affected how she can train.

Not Missy franklin but swimmer from Kazakhstan just won the men's 200m butterfly. That's like saying the Jamaican's have a bobsled team
