With the USA's HUGE win over Brazil, their pool is far from decided...
Current Pool Standings: 1) Italy 3-0 2) France 2-1 3) Brazil 2-1 4) Canada 1-2 5) USA 1-2 6) Mexico 0-3
Here are a few scenarios, if the USA wins both remaining matches. This assumes no 5 game matches, which has yet to happen, but would be unlikely if no pool play matches go 5.
3 Points = Win in 3 or 4 2 Points = Win in 5 1 Point = Lose in 5#1: USA win vs France Canada win vs Mexico Brazil win vs Italy USA win vs Mexico Italy win vs Canada Brazil win vs France
1) Brazil 4-1 2) Italy 4-1 3) USA 3-2 4) France 2-3 5) Canada 2-3 6) Mexico 0-5 * Brazil beats Italy head to head * France beats Canada head to head #2: USA win vs France Canada win vs Mexico Italy win vs Brazil USA win vs Mexico Italy win Canada Brazil win vs France
1) Italy 5-0 2) USA 3-2 3) Brazil 3-2 4) France 2-3 5) Canada 2-3 6) Mexico 0-5
* USA beats Brazil head to head * France beats Canada head to head
#3: USA win vs France Canada win vs Mexico Italy win vs Brazil USA win vs Mexico Italy win vs Canada France win vs Brazil
1) Italy 5-0 2) USA 3-2 3) France 3-2 4) Brazil 2-3 5) Canada 2-3 6) Mexico 0-5
* USA beats France head to head * Brazil beats Canada head to head
#4: USA wins vs France Canada wins vs Mexico Brazil wins vs Italy USA wins vs Mexico Canada wins vs Italy Brazil wins vs France
1) Brazil 4-1 2) Canada 3-2 3) Italy 3-2 4) USA 3-2 5) France 2-3 6) Mexico 0-5
* Canada beats USA & Italy * Italy beats USA, but lost to Canada * USA loses to Italy & Canada
#5: USA wins vs France Canada wins vs Mexico Brazil wins vs Italy USA wins vs Mexico Canada wins vs Italy France wins vs Brazil
T-1) USA 3-2 T-1) Brazil 3-2 T-1) Italy 3-2 T-1) France 3-2 T-1) Canada 3-2 6) Mexico 0-5
* 5-way tie for 1st! OUCH!!!
Please let me know if I made any errors.
GO USA!!!

GO USA!!! I thought the FIVB tie breaker was points ratio, not head to head.

Honestly Canada is on the downslope, it is plausible a loss to Mexico is hanging out there.

USA can lose in 5 to France and advance if Canada loses to Italy in 3 or 4 (assuming both teams beat Mexico)

^ If that happens and Canada loses to Italy 3-1, there's still a scenario where USA would still be out. It all depends on how many sets each gets against Mexico.
If USA wins 3-2 and CAN wins 3-0 against MEX, USA is out because of lower set ratio.

Tie-breakers are set ratio, then setpoint ratio, then head-to-head.
Because of that, the math is really messy right now in Pool A. Only Italy has virtually advanced. Everyone from (2) France, (3) Brazil, (4) USA, (5) Canada, and (6) Mexico can advance or be eliminated. There's even a potential 5-way tie for 1st OR 4-way tie for 3rd that will come down to tedious #s.
If USA loses to France tomorrow, they MUST win against Mexico (and hope that USA's set ratio puts us on top).
If USA wins against France, then all hell breaks loose. Anyone can be eliminated, depending on what teams do. There are countless scenarios in this situation.
Obviously a win over FRA and a win over MEX, would put USA in a really good spot.

Even Italy can mathematically be eliminated in a 5 way tie for first based on a 9-7 game record if they get swept their last 2 matches.

Those who were talking that usa didn't need points vs. Brazil are now realized that without these 3 points this conversation would be in mute mode. The pray is:God, make Canada score 0 sets against Italy and perhaps lose vs. Mexico. Is there any issue in this pray? Ya, Canada will face Italy in last match, and this team maybe wouldn't need any points...

Head to head is #5 on the list.

MEX was down 0-6 in the first set to CAN when I decided to turn it off due to the bad volleyball that was shown by MEX. I have a hard time believing that USA will even drop a set due to MEX body language for those first 6 points that I saw.

Mexico actually made some comebacks during the match, only to drop in their quality again and again. They almost took the 3rd set before going back to their old self. The fact that Mexico qualified for the Olympics and Serbia did not is a joke.
