(According to the FIVB site's Round of 16 schedule)
Why are the 2 Brazilian teams not set to meet in the Quarters beings Agatha/Barbara finished 2nd in Pool B.
Instead, Pool B winner (ESP) is scheduled to possibly meetup with Pool B 2nd (BRA) in Quarters (they just played yesterday with ESP winning to win Pool B). Please tell me this is a typo. Similar with Pool E (first and 2nd are on same side of bracket but wouldn't meet until semi-finals).
I certainly hope this isn't a scheduling decision to keep the 2 home teams from knocking one or the other out before the medal round.

On the whole the Brazil teams got a lousy draw. The team that got the best draw is Kerry/April. There are three gold medal contenders and Kerri/April wont have to play either of the other two until the gold medal match.
No top teams at all on their side of the draw

Yeah, unless the winner of Lili/Elsa v. Agatha/Barbara can take them down, the americans can walk right into the final. NBC must be pleased.

Well, I was hoping somebody who follows FIVB a lot more would come in and say this is common because FIVB tournaments do a blind draw for 2 pools in order to keep teams from losing to get a more favorable draw based on completed pool results. However, Brazil men's teams got a similar matchup swtich to be in different sides of the brackets. But the 2 BRZ mens teams would not have met until semifinals in the bracket of direct, non-randomized matchups; not quarters like the BRZ women. (Even if there's only a 1/36 chance of this happening for both the Brz Men and Womens teams, at least it makes sense then.) |

Brazil would only have one team left if Germany's 2 could have hit the ball in. In the first game I think Brazil went from 10-20 with almost every sideout being a missed Germany serve. Meanwhile Talita seemed desperate to give the match away.
Germany had a nice lead but seemed intimidated by the crowd and Larissa, who is awesome. Here is a hint for other teams playing them. If Talita drops always hit at her. Anything to Larissa is getting dug

Not quite sure why So many think it's a cake walk to the finals for Kerri & April......Just wondering How many watched their last match....They easily could have lost to the Swiss team.....They play like that tonight or against any team on this side of their draw and they go home without a Medal.....I absolutely would love to see Kerri & April win Gold, but it's a tall order.....They have a lot of work to do.....Nothing is guaranteed in Rio....Examples: Serena & the US Women's Soccer team.... |
