Hard to say they were better when Sweden had the winner disallowed I didn't see it, but I have read accounts of the match that say both teams had goals disallowed for being offside, but that replays showed neither goal should have been disallowed. That seems like a wash. US goal should have been disallowed due to a foul not offside. Its soccer so "we played better but lost" is a pretty common, and often justified refrain, but based on individual talent the US should have won by 5 so hard to sympathize.

A lackadaisical performance in the Olympics after all the bellyaching - especially Solo's performance - doesn't show much in the way of heart IMHO. They have enjoyed a much higher success level than the men's side, who are completely over compensated, but up until last year still did not top the men in generating revenue. Here is actually an interesting outline of it: www.nytimes.com/2016/04/22/sports/soccer/usmnt-uswnt-soccer-equal-pay.html?_r=0 It will be very interesting to see what happens to the women's financials for 2017 as the US federation was factoring in at least a medal at the Olympics in the budget forecast. Womens teams from other countries get even less support than their male counterparts. That doesn't make it okay.

Hope this is the last we ever see of Hope in a USWNT jersey. Disgraceful.

Hope this is the last we ever see of Hope in a USWNT jersey. Disgraceful. Who is your goalie candidate to replace her? In the immediate future we have two good choices: Alyssa Naeher and Ashlynn Harris. Both have consistently outperformed Hope in the NWSL. They don't receive the opportunities to start matches that Hope does but look at it this way...any other international team would absolutely love to have the backups we have. Even though Hope hasn't been near her peak in recent years she still gets the start because she's seen as the best and has come up with clutch plays as recently as last year's WWC. But her play in Rio didn't exactly make her look irreplaceable and given her behavior issues, her age, and her steadily declining performance level I think her time has come. Most other players would have been given their marching orders long ago so it speaks to her talent that the coaches are willing to put up with all the other headaches. The next world cup is in 2018 so it's a good time to transition to the Post Hope era and if you couldn't tell already, it can't come soon enough for me. When athletes put on these jerseys they're not just representing themselves. It's absolutely shameful. I'm tired of her crap and I'm tired of her getting away with it all the time. But at the same time I've always understood the dilemma that Jill and Pia before her had. But I think we've arrived at the point where the drawbacks outweigh the positives.

Actually the next WWC is in 2019. Yeah, I doubt Solo will still be on the team by then. She's the 2nd oldest player of the current squad.
