Why are they so AWFUL? A timeout is not 4 commercial lengths, why am I staring at a "coverage will resume shortly" when the commercials are over and the timeout is DEFINITELY over!?! Oh that's right, because they're trying to hide that they're cutting off game time and resume after a point is over. UGH. They don't care and they're making money so I guess it's a win/lose scenario 🙄

They do have to pay for the cost of streaming the event and commercials do that...I don't mind missing a few points here and there, since I am getting to see almost as much as I would if I was at the event.

Here's hoping we'll be able to watch Olympics on YouTube in the future.
This piecemeal shi.t is a joke.

Because NBC is owned by Xfinity/Comcast, no other reason necessary

Watching content via the nbc sports app on AppleTv is flawless, for those that have it. Live and Replays w/ out limits. FYI...

Watching content via the nbc sports app on AppleTv is flawless, for those that have it. Live and Replays w/ out limits. FYI... Yeah I've been watching that and it's gotten better. Was quite infuriating earlier today when they'd show 5 commercials during a time out, and then make us stare at "coverage will shortly resume" so they can resume coverage at the start of a new point to seem as though they came back in once the timeout was over. But, coverage of Italy v Brazil has been good. Speaking of, looks like Italy will be #1 seed. What a tough pool!

Yea, the one feature that's bugged me is the ability to scroll. It's just not as functional as any other ATV app that uses scrolling. Other than that, works great...

Streaming it is still tons better than trying to watch it on tv, esp on the west coast.
Today, after the 1st couple of sand matches in the early AM, everthing is tape delayed. They were supposed to broadcast tje USA v France vball game st 4pm. Yet they stayed with diving until alslmost 5pm. They acted like the vball game was live and started their coverage in the middle of the 2nd set....

Who is the woman that does some of the announcing on the nbc streams? She's really awkward and doesn't have much knowledge about the game.

the fact that there is even an option to watch the matches live online or via an app is a feat in itself.
we've come a long way. so i can deal with the commercial interruptions at odd moments. sure it's annoying. but i remember in past olympics having to scan the tv guides (paper and in later years, digital) to see when vball would be aired, b/c that was the only option ... and even then, it'd be tape delayed, aired at a really inconvenient time (here in hawaii), and edited with a hacksaw ...

In the US maybe. For both the last Olympics and this one the BBC has had almost everything available. CBC for this one as well, although I am now watching Canada v Germany BVB quarters with what seems like sailing commentary so they are not exactly perfect either The US coverage, which I gave up on almost immediately is lousy and they had plenty of time to prepare and improve based on what other networks did last time
