Makes you wonder how the Netherlands has had such great results. I mean just flush convention down the toilet. They've been poor in service and reception. Ordinary in other departments. Of course these stats don't tell you everything. There's not a good straightforward defensive metric in VB (certainly not "digs"). Then there's that mysterious hoodoo...conjuring up errors from your opponent...I suspect this is where the Dutch are really excelling.

Meh, those numbers don't measure digs or rally length. Clearly, what's happening is that the Netherlands' poor passing neuters their middle attack, they get into long rallies, and eventually Slöetjes kills

No. It's because Netherlands is high error.

When the broadcasts show individual blocking and digging stats, they show them as a ratio: x / y. For example, blocking might be 1/13, and digs 4/10. I assume those are successes / attempts (as in, 1 block in 13 attempts, or 4 digs in 10 attempts). Is that correct?
When did this start? And do you find this more useful? I would, if I could find aggregations of these statistics. But on a single match basis, they are not informative for me.

Stats in volleyball are always a flawed metric cause it's impossible to measure everything like forced errors, block touches etc.
I have said it since the beginning of the tourney the US serving has been abysmal. We clean that up and we would be that much better.

Also hard to compare two pools of play. Russia and Brazil were not really challenged and thus their stats are near the top for most things.

Also interesting that Zhu Ting is more efficient than Foluke
