3rd game was just not very charged by the US. Phil pulled on a shot and poorly, IMHO, and was STILL only a 1/2 step away from digging the ball up, which is basically a two point swing. Bruno dug a LOT, Lucena, not so much. I'm sure there's another side, but . . . :-(

I'm really annoyed by this. Phil & Nick were such a lock to medal before this tournament and got shafted with a really bad break. They actually took care of their pool, and paid the price for winning it because Bruno/Allison were sloppy and couldn't win their pool. Seriously, this is maybe the most lopsided draw I've ever seen in a bracket elimination in any sport ever. It is a JOKE. I hope the Dutch take care of them. Oh and I love how the Brazil crowd and come and raise hell for their athletes in Swimming and Track/Field (Sports of which they have NO hope of any medals), but this match starts half full when they have the #1 team. Whatever, I am glad the host nation is having a horrendous Olympics as far as medals go. They have been a disgusting host. Brazil has really embarrassed itself these Olympics. I was in London for a few days of the 2012 games (on business) and you couldnt get tickets to anything other than the 9th place women's saber fencing. In Brazil it feels like you could walk into any event you wanted. Seriously, it's a crime infested, polluted, and disease plagued country, who the hell would really want to go there - Brazilians don't have coin to attend all the events

I think Nick/Phil probably chose to receive which is probably the smart play, but putting the onus on Bruno/Allison to make a play in the wind to start off may have been a better bet. I also would have liked to see more serves to Bruno. They went to him twice and got one, late in the match. With the wind blowing that much I think I would rather have the little guy adjusting to a bad set than the big guy to a good one. yeah, based on the wind, it seems the smart thing would be to serve if you aren't getting the good side. That just lets the other team just tee off with serves at the beginning of the deciding set. Not smart at all. And yes, I'm one that will typically take receive regardless so I can go on offense right away, but in this situation, when the conditions are dictating a lot, you have to play the conditions. And if you are going to serve the big guy, force him to move, esp with these conditions.

Finally got home and able to watch the match, give it to the Brazilians, they outplayed Phil and Nick. Great match, third set was a little anti-climatic though.
But if I never have to hear oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooooohhh again I will die a happy person. I know that some smaller and more backwards sporting events crowds in the US do it still , do the Brazilians know anything else beyond White Stripes? I cannot find the mute button fast enough. And I am not so sure I want to watch the men's beach final, I am not sure if I can hear one more reference to the "woolly mammoth" either. That is probably solely on the american announcers though so the NBC stream should be safe

it's a pity that the wind affected the game that much but you have to give credit to Alison and Bruno. I was really impressed with Alison. He's been struggling quite a bit recently but yesterday he stepped it up! I think they won almost all long rallies which really gave them the needed momentum.

He's been struggling quite a bit recently but yesterday he stepped it up! I think they won almost all long rallies which really gave them the needed momentum. The wind definitely had a big effect, and the third game coin flip may have been the most important play in the match, but the US' failure to deal with the wind was why they lost and its beach volleyball, not sand volleyball, so the wind is an expected factor. It was very windy but not aberationally so. For Nick Lucena, allegedly a ball control player, to fail to pass better than Allison, who does look like a mammoth, is not something that should be blamed on the wind. The hitting and setting issues can be, but one of the main reasons they lost is Nick couldnt pass. (of course handing Allison gentle topsin lobs in Game 3 may have made his passing a little easier)

I don't think there's no bad break, the mens side is absolutely loaded, and the best it's ever been in terms of top teams. There wasn't going to be an easy matchup anywhere in the quarters. I don't understand why people are laying this on Lucena. We have all stated coming into Rio that in order for them to medal Phil was going to have to be the monster World's Best Player that he was with Todd, and he was the second best net player in that match. His blocking left a lot to be desired for Nick and Brazil hit around him like he was a 6'4" blocker not from Cuba. Phil was anything but dominant at the net all tournament. His attacking was very good but he needed to be the intimidating net presence he's been in the past for them to win. Really hope Alison/Bruno win. I'm not a big fan of Alison's game in his technical skill, but he seems like a great guy and hard to root against.

I would say disappointing Olympics for the men, but the World is hella good at beach volleyball, and young. I will be interested to see where USA goes from here in terms of having a hands on commitment to improving the men's side.

Check this real sports documentary on the IOC. They basically can only give bids to corrupt and totalitarian regimes because civilized 1st world nations don't take their crap or overtly harm their citizens to the degree the IOC demands.

Low point for me was at the end of the first game in the Larissa match when the announcers said something like "its filling up now, stadium will be rocking soon." People couldnt even bother to show up for one of Brazil's all time best athletes in her last Olympics

Thats a great win. So tight. Even the last ball would have been dug if Mewssen hadnt touched it. Good for Allison/Bruno
