I'm kind of expecting Phil/Nick and Kerri/April to come out flat this tournament. Can't be motivated too much after Rio. The only thing for Phil and Nick is they can pass Samoilovs/Smedins in world rankings this year i.e "team of the year". (not sure if they get a bonus for that) Kerri Walsh NEVER comes out flat. If Phil/Nick aren't motivated to win this after a disappointing finish in Rio, they should go ahead and retire.

Claes-Hughes drop their first two pool matches. Scores were close and they should win their next and advance (and may do well in playoffs). But good reminder how tough and deep the big boy tour is.

If those two are staying together beyond this year they should switch sides. Kerri is going to get more and more serves now - she already gets most of them - so they should put her where she has the best chance to succeed.

I was actually thinking they should have switched mid match in Rio. I agree fully, can't see April having a hard time siding out from the right.

It would have taken an amazing amount of nerve and prescience to do it, but definitely would have changed the tone of the game. US men all look to be in good shape to advance. Tri v Theo could be a matchup of future partners? (I hate that Tri/John are still together) On the women's side every team has a pretty good chance at their first match, but their second is deadly for almost all. Kerri/April have a walk to the final with the exception of Isabelle/Anouk who are just so so. I am eager to see Claes/Hughes v Larissa if Kelly and Sara can get by the Swiss.

Richard Lambourne is planning streaming via periscope most of the day. ( www.periscope.tv/richyusa) Has Hughes/Claes vs Betschart/Huberli right now. He's mentioned he'll be doing it except when he's coaching. What team(s) does Lambourne coach?

I swear everytime Lane and Summer make it out of Pool they always get drawn into Kerri/April's section.
Really hoping Claes/Hughes win so they can play Larissa & Talita. Would be very curious to see how that match turns out.

Would be very curious to see how that match turns out. Some jerk trying to make Rich stop recording. Claes/Hughes look good but Id like to see Kelly more aggressive. She wants to shoot every time. Sara with an absolutely beautiful cut to getr to 18-16 Lane/Summer got a lousy second round but that first was almost a bye.

Some jerk trying to make Rich stop recording. Which is funny since WSOBV themselves have tweeted out links to his streams and the announcer doing the official WSOBV stream of summer/lane earlier said to check out richards streams too. Hughes/Claes win the 2nd 27-25 so they'll advance.

Primos/Grimalt beat Gibb/Patterson 2-1. I think Gibb/Patterson went 1-2 in pool play as well. Not doing very good recently.

On the women's side, we're down to two American teams, facing each other in the same quarterfinal.

Never entered. A lot of the top teams haven't been playing US FIVB events. I think the reason some of the top teams aren't here is because of the calendar placement. The week after the Olympics is a horrible spot. I think Long Beach is pretty much the biggest event every year aside from the years with Worlds/Olympics. BTW NBC Sports Network has coverage from 9PM-11PM CST. Not sure if it's live or tape delayed stuff. NBC then has a block on Saturday and Sunday.

May have something to do with travel as a lot of the FIVB events seem to be mainly in Europe but who knows.
