I see they have a match scheduled at 430 EST. Probably the women. Anyone know where we can see the men's final, live?

Any chance April Ross takes time off for a baby?

Ross' serve absolutely atrocious today, Walsh having some issues serve receiving, spain has been targeting her on the serve. Still won first set by 4, point for point in the second

Too bad the Germans did not come to Cali, still vindication for Walsh/Ross by taking the gold convincingly.

Spain is just one of those teams that are just never going to test Kerri/April. They match up rather horrifically and all it takes is steady volleyball and they will rout them easy everytime. I mean they gave them help today and still won convincingly.

I think Summer can hang on the physical level. She just has to work on conditioning more in the off season. Get with the right group and work her rear off. I am not writing Summer off. I am talking about the summer months May through September missing time with your children that you cannot get back for Kerri. Her boys will be getting at the age where they will be in their own sport leagues where I am sure they would want their mom to be there. Like I say that is up to her. The ball is in her court.

In sort of an interesting coincidence both Kerri and April need 16 more wins to get to KK. Kerri needs 16 to tie Karch and April needs 16 to pass Karolyn Kirby for 4th all time. Phil is also 16 wins away from 100.
Lot of landmarks coming up the next year or so if Kerri and Phil keep playing and if they play a lot of AVPs and Opens.

Watching Phil play with Nick is such a frustrating experience.

When does the qualifying cycle start? 2 year cycle - 2019? That's the way it has been working. Presumably a new partnership would want some experience together before qualification begins. They could still be testing the waters in 2018. Even early 2019, as long as you can get in the required 12 events. Of course, FIVB could decide to change the qualification system.

Impressions from Long Beach: This venue may have the best set-up of any FIVB tourney on US soil that I have been to. Wide open spaces - cool vendors - decent, although very limited, food - some shaded areas while watching the outside courts - fairly clean port-o-lets - gorgeous sand - awesome views - great restaurants and nightlife within a short walk! In general, my main complaint remains the same as it is for every AVP/FIVB tournament I have ever been to. The best days to be there, in my humble opinion, are the weekdays. Saturday blows for spectators - 8 total matches, with only one match not on stadium court. I know, I know - its all about TV and media presence and making the stands look full, etc. Still blows - so many folks there just dying to see some quality matches, and instead they get 1 hr waits between matches, incredibly slow play because of the media timeouts, etc., and such a limited ability to see lots of different teams from lots of different countries. At least don't push sooooooo many matches through on Friday so that there is more volleyball to watch on Saturday. Please. PLEASE!!! I mean, what could it hurt to have 3 or 4 courts going on Saturday, and then still have your same crappy Sunday set-up with only 4 total matches over a painful 8 hour period? I just don't get it, and I guess I never will, no matter how many lame excuses the powers that be come up with. The actual play was awesome. I can't remember so many exciting 3 set matches going to the wire!!! Pedro getting under everyone's skin (as usual), and making Smedins be the one that Samilovs has to calm down!!! The Mexican men are much better in person that I thought, especially Ontiveros. Even though the overall fun quotient in watching the men is still pretty low due to their power game and way less rallies than the women, there were actually alot of outside court matches which were downright exciting. The Polish team is really fun to watch, and seeing Evandro play defense watching them split bock is a hoot! I officially have a new crush - Holtwick's excitement is contagious as hell, and I was really sad that Semmler seemed to let her down early and often. If she can find a Walkenhorst-type partner, I think she is really one to watch in the future. Even the third best Canadian women have come a long way - kinda cool to see their program really take off, and I wonder if they will let two Canadian teams of each gender into the Toronto tourney (which we are going to travel to as well)? Larissa Talita were brilliant against Claes/Hughes, and I think they have a lot farther to go than most people on here who seem to think in order to be a world power team within a few years. There is just too much international talent on the women's side, I think, to ever see another Kerri/Misty type run, but I hope I'm wrong! Phil seems disinterested and like he is simply doing all of this as a favor for his old pal, Nick. And Kerri, no offense, is simply being carried by April. When you watch them in person, I think you realize that Kerri will simply never be Kerri anymore, and April is arguably the best women's player in the world right now. Those of you who think her defense is slow and not very anticipatory are simply not watching closely. She is not Larissa, but she is a lot closer than any of us think with her ability to stretch out and read the hitters. Sadly, I don't see how she keeps up that defensive intensity until age 38, especially if a baby or two are in the picture. Maybe the only exception to that is if the 6'5" Sarah Pavan migrates back to the US (fun to start rumors) and hooks up with April? The Japanese team was incredibly fun to watch - 5'5" and 5'8" - what a throwback to the Lindquist sisters, although the taller gal did have a few blocks. I don't think teams knew how to play them, and they really took advantage of that fact, and really pushed some of the tall teams with their incredible defense and ability to side out. OK, I'll shut up now - just wanted to share a few random thoughts. One funny anecdote - Leonard walks into the free upper stands with his "bodyguard" - sits down by us for around 14 seconds, gets a call, and immediately gets up and walks out, all the while yelling "Leonard Armato here" into the phone. Not sure why I laughed at that, but I did! Overall, a great time, as always in Long Beach - sure am glad the FIVB is back on US soil!!!

Definetely helped this tournament that Kerri & Apri & Phil & Nick made the finals....They saved NBCs butt..... My opinion on April is that she is possibly the best player in the world right now, but she will be no where near the type of player in 2020 that Kerri is at age 38....April will need to pick up an azazing partner in order to medal in 2020 just like Kerri had to these past four years.....JMO....Women's Beach VB is simply getting too good all around the world.....If LB was Kerris last international match, that was a great way to go out.!!!! Wishing her & her Family all the best! π
