OH - Lucarelli/Russell MB - Birarelli/Volvich Opp - Wallace S - Bruno L - Sergio MVP - Sergio
Bruno did an amazing job in the tourbament with a bunch of average pin hitters. I think that he should have been MVP instead of Sergio. Erik Shoji has been leading tournament as well in the best libero category. And no Holt?

But I agree Bruno was most valuable in reality, but this was Sergio's farewell Olympics and Bruno will be MVP in the future.

Zaytsev was robbed. I don't expect MVP to go to anyone not on the gold medal team, but he was the best player in the tourney at at least deserved best opposite honours

Sergio and Bruno were the two easy picks from the champions. Opposite was hard. Wallace was the leading scorer and his team won. Zaytsev also had a great tournament. I'd go with Wallace because Brazil won, and because he was carrying a heavier load with Lucarelli being hurt.
I would go with Juantorena as one OH. The other one would be up for grabs, and Russell did enough as a hitter that I'd take him just ahead of Lucarelli. You could make a case for any of the three though in my opinion.
I'd go Holt/Volvich in the middle. Birarelli is a valid pick as well though, and probably got the nod due to Italy being in the final.
There were a lot of other guys that played well, and have a case for being selected. This was a really good, really well played tournament.

This was a really good, really well played tournament. AGREE 100% I sure hope people appreciate what they saw. It was terrific and high energy from the very first pool play match.

Yes, he helped Brazil win for sure. But Sergio is hardly the best at anything in this tournament to receive not 1, but 2 awards! MVP?! You've gotta be kidding me.
He is ranked 4th in digs behind Shoji, Colaci and Juantorena. Yes, JUANTORENA! 4th in receives behind Sander, Shoji and Colaci.
What other duties are there for the libero? They only gave them to him because he's retiring. Is that what we do now, awards for retiring?
I don't particularly care about these awards but still...
