The Points System

When I read about the final statistics for the NORCECA tournament, what is new to me is reading so-and-so got 17 "points". Someone explain this system to me? Is it only used in Int'l competition?
I'm thinking it's a compliation of kills, blocks, aces, etc. Let us know.

Yes, in international play, they just combine all the statitstics into one category "points". When a player gets a kill, block, or ace they rack up a point.
