Also from the Big 12 Website:
"Melissa Elmer of Nebraska was voted Player of the Year, Kansas' Emily Brown and Nebraska's Sara Pavan shared Freshman of the Year honors and Kansas' Paula Caten was selected as Newcomer of the Year."
What really surprises me is the selection of Kansas as #7 in the preseason poll after:
a) finishing tied for 3rd in the Big 12 last year and just outside the top 25 nationally b) returning 4 starters plus having the coaches preseason Co-Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
I would have thought that if the coaches were that high on two of there recruits to go along with 4 starters, then they wouldn't have moved Texas, Colorado and Missouri around them in the voting.

I think that it boils down to that a few of us fans actually take more time and consideration of all the facts than the coaches of the profession.
Perhaps these coaches just don't care?
I think that they should, as it helps promote the sport and build excitement. Now, it is just seen by most people to be a formality and not taken very seriously.

Interesting that they picked KSU 2nd considering they lost more players than anyone else in the conference. I guess the coaches must think that the incoming recruits will make a big difference. I agree with KU being underated. They are going to be very good this year. Texas 3rd after the year they had last year? They lost Hahn but have added some depth.

KU has a couple of good ones in Correa and Lima. And I was really impressed by Dorsey when they played the Gophers.
I just wish I could watch Nebraska's first few PRACTICES.

I appreciate K-State being ranked that high, but I think they are crazy about KU. Don't overlook Ray Beshard. He is a proven championship coach at the JC level, and can recruit. I pray this is NOT the "dreaded" year that the Jayhawks manage to squeek one past the Cats -- it will NOT be a fun time in Aggieville!! I hope the coaches can get the girls up for the intrastate rivalry -- you KNOW that Ray will have his girls up for it!! ;D

I don't think anyone -- including Nebraska -- is going to have a cake walk through the Big-12 this year. Each team is going to have to bring its "A" game to every match. I think that the teams that come out of the Big-12 cat (no pun intended) fight will be VERY ready to go far in the Big Dance in December. I'll have my money riding on the Big-12 survivors in December!!
