Big 10 losing two good ones at michigan and illinois.... Well, we now know where one is going...Kaylin Korte from Illinois to Clemson (per Rich Kern and her twitter). Predict she will be one of many quality players who will give Clemson serious consideration with Michaela Franklin at the helm.

Congrats to Kaylin Korte on her move to Clemson. Kaylin will get a fresh start as a sophomore on a Clemson team that is basically in the process of a total restart. Following a season where Clemson garnered 6 wins (only 1 in the ACC), Kaylin should be in the mix to see playing time for the Tigers.

Always disappointing to hear girls leaving, but best wishes to both. Both just got schollies, I remember seeing the video.

I can't imagine why I keep coming to a thread titled "D1 Transfers (2017)" expecting to read something about new D1 transfer info. Can we get back on topic?? Sponcil to UCLA is huge. But I don't see LMU making the NCAA's next year(even if Sponcil returns). I like Sponcil so much as a player that I think she deserves a season at a top program. Agreed.

Both Reeves and Smith were on scholarship this spring. They wouldn't have been had they remained on the team in the fall.
In 2017, getting one semester of college tuition paid for is nothing to scoff at.

The scholarships were to be picked up in full by incoming freshmen. a scholarship for one semester?.....ok. This is very common, especially with programs that have players that graduate in December. This was a good move by the NCAA to allow scholarships to be transferred to other players upon completion of a scholarship athlete's graduation. Rather than the scholarship just sitting with no one benefiting from it, schools are able to pass the benefit on to another player. For some programs, they are able to award the scholarship to a deserving walk-on. For others, they can use if for freshmen that graduate early from HS and want to enroll in the spring. A semester of free tuition, books, meals, housing, and for some programs, cost of attendance, is not a small thing.

I'm sure the players in question knew that it would be just for the semester. Think of it this way: If someone offered to pay your mortgage or rent for six months, would you roll your eyes and say it's just like them to do this for six months and then stop? Or would you say "thank you" and take the money?

Agree. No reason to make Cook a bad guy on this one. Probably went something like this:
Cook: you aren't going to play next year and you may have more opp on the T&F team or another school. I'll help with that transition and I'm awarding you a schollie for the spring!!! Player: Awesome, thanks!

I seem to recall a lot of Husker insiders noting Reeves was recruited on a 2x2 deal, so moving to the track team for two years would probably hurt because track athletes rarely get full rides (and have to be pretty elite to do so)
