Hate to see Gabby go with the Simpson-sister/Colorado reign, but Colorado will be fine. They have good setters now with a great Freshmen coming in, and they have better OH's with Smith and Frankie Shebby being able to carry the load with some decent Opp's on the other side, and now a better Libero than previous years. Gabby probably wanted to set, CU had better setting options than her, and she goes where she can play the position she wants. I think Colorado will be alright without her as well. Smith, Shebby, and Shadley will probably fill the OH spots, Newsome can set all around, maybe Joachim hits Opposite. Do you think Kansas is moving to a 6-2 then? No way she beats Havili out if Kansas sticks to a 5-1. Hayes will be the opp guaranteed. Shadley DS for Shebby. Newsome in a 5-1. Not a bad team, but they won't have enough firepower.

Shebby and Alexa are enough firepower for Colorado on OH...with Shadley being another option. Alexa was given way too many bad sets last year to prove how good she is (remember National HS player of the Year and a top recruit?). Then you have Abu in middle and a great new middle 6.4 freshmen coming in. Hayes on OPP. Branen as Libero is better than Cierra Simpson was. Newsome will be a better setter than Gabby and Kiara were last year (if she transitions well to college). It will be a much different team, but with the talent they have stacked...they will be good and probably be middle of PAC (6th or 7th is my pick) -- which is all you have to be to get into the NCAA tourney and still have a winning record.

I question whether 2 sub-6' lefts who hit under .200 in conference play and aren't top-level passers is enough firepower. Simpson at Kansas does raise a logjam. I assume that moves Payne to the middle?

Again, Smith and the OH's were given bad sets all the time (setting was CU's main problem last year) compared to their PAC counterparts. Even the commentators on TV said it throughout the season ("bad set", "set too low", "need better sets"). Colorado had their 3rd string setting half the season. Alexa is VERY good at passing as well. Shebby hits it very hard. Will be interesting to see how she hits in PAC after a year off though.

Simpson at Kansas does raise a logjam. I assume that moves Payne to the middle? There seems like there is more to this story... Kansas is possibly a NC contender this year if they are able to properly replace the Libero position. It doesn't sound like that will be Simpson. That leaves these scenarios:
1) Payne wants/needs to move to the middle because of National Team or professional interests. Payne's value as an OPP is just way too valuable at the college level to ever consider making this move otherwise. Also, Kansas is already brining in 2 Middles this year as transfers.
2) There is an unknown injury somewhere (or transfer out/retirement).
3) Simpson is sitting out this year and will play her final year next year when Kansas will have a real need. But then they are brining in a pretty high recruit to set next year. Why then would Simpson want to come to Kansas to play next year - and people are already saying she isn't sitting?

They appear to have a need for 1 or 2 senior year only scholarship players in 2018. They are 'booked' for 2019.

I believe that Simpson was out of the entire Colorado spring practices and scrimmages due to injury, so she may well still be injured and looking to sit out this season for that reason also.

Gabby from Colorado to Kansas Geez, two big Pac-12 transfers in the last couple of days. I still think Gabby leaving hurts Colorado.
