Has anyone really paid attention to this teams' schedules lately? In 2002, this team lost out on an NCAA bid although being ranked nationally in the AVCA top 25, but failing at the automatic bid from the Big Sky Conference. The reason given that their strength of schedule was too weak. Last season, 2003, they had a solid schedule including some perennial powerhouses, but yet again, fell short of an automatic bid and missed on the at-large, although, last year's case was NOT as convincing as in 2002. This season, EWU's schedule is chalk full of powerfull teams from the opener vs. Hawaii to the Thanksgiving time match against Utah (BYU must've been because they are close). Here's a look at their non-conference opponents: - #13 Hawaii
- #17 Arizona
- #29 San Diego
- #6 Stanford
- #8 Penn State
- San Francisco
- Furman (eh, ok, so a small break)
- Iowa (I'm SHOCKED to see Wade vs. Cindy!!)
- Chicago State (ok, phew! Another breather)
- #23 Idaho
- #35 BYU
- #24 Utah
athletics.ewu.edu/Volleyball/04vbsked.htmlVery good non-conference schedule. I'm thrilled to see them starting to be able to schedule these tougher teams, now, they'll just need to beat a few of them.

Did I mention, of all these matches, only Idaho, Boise State (omitted from list above) and half of their Big Sky schedule are at home? 9 home matches. I would be quite annoyed if I were an EWU student fan.
Lots of travelling for EWU Volleyball, again.

This match was made well before Rita left. You can bet that it will have a very "big game" feel in the locker room prior to the match. Eastern plays their first conference game a couple of days later.
