This is certainly an interesting roster. I expect that one of Hawaii's recruits will redshirt if not two of them (likely Thomas and Keefe). Only 4 seniors and juniors on the team is refreshing. It will certainly be a young squad. Good for the future but not very positive for the present.

She is. Ashley Watanabe is a junior, Cayley Thurlby and Kanoe Kamana'o are sophomores. The page hasn't been fully updated yet. Perhaps after the first day of practice.

I don't think that only 4 Jrs. and Srs. (that's what Nebraska has this year also with 1 Sr. and 3 Jrs.) is quite as unusual as having 10 freshmen on a squad. I thought Hawaii's drop in the polls to 13 was an awful lot. After realizing there are 10 freshmen, maybe it wasn't enough.

There are 8 freshmen. Cayley Thurlby and Kanoe Kamana'o are sophomores. Three of the eight, Sanders, Gregory and Woolford, redshirted last year. Last spring, there were 10 freshmen. Redshirt Katie Carlson and Jennifer Wells quit.

Does Caroline Blood have 4 years to play volleyball? I know she played softball last year, so wouldn't that make her a Soph?

Maybe last year was considered her redshirt year in volleyball. Like Lindsey Yamasaki when she redshirted 1998 in volleyball but played in basketball.

Fotu and Eckmier are the only seniors. Boogard, Watanabe and Prince are the juniors. Kamanao, Arnott, and Thurlby are sophomors.

Kelly was hurt in the spring and didn't play against Nittaidai, but I think Katie and Jennifer did get some playing time in that match. Too bad they aren't on the fall roster but I'm looking forward to seeing what Kelly can do as a backup to Ashley.

8 Melody Eckmier M 6-3 Jr. Simi Valley, CA Has she ever played a complete match so far? I wonder if the freshmen or once again a transfer MB will beat her out of playing MB?

I'm thinking that the roster is not complete at 16.
There are still a few to add.

Has she ever played a complete match so far? I wonder if the freshmen or once again a transfer MB will beat her out of playing MB? Yes she has. In 2001, Shoji used a 3 MB line up with her in it. In the first few matches, she started and played all games. But the line up wasn't working and Shoji went back to a traditional line up. Duggins and Tano were in the middle and Eckmier was put on the bench. She needs to work on her lateral movement to close the block but if she gets her hands on the ball, it is going straight down. I have enjoyed watching Eckmier. She always seems so happy to play whenever she gets on the court.
