I just love, love, love Ogonna.
U.S. wasn't running the quick attack enough. When they did, the Chinese couldn't stop it. Danielle rocks.

It was interesting that after Set 2, Keba got back into the game. Oganna was bombing the ball! Why didn't she stay in?!

I wondered the same thing. Ogonna was blistering the ball over and around the block, also picking up some digs. Then I looked up and Keba was back in.

Errors. Three of China's last five points in game three came off two service errors and an overpass. Three of their first four in match four came off two service errors and an overpass. You aren't going to win doing that.

There were a few times I went away and came back, and on my fuzzy (FUZZY) tv, I probably confused Ogonna with Keba. I can only see shapes on it, not clear unless it's a closeup. However, I did see Ogonna OR Keba shank about 4-6 balls in the third-fourth games.

exactly my point. keba passes when she's in. the fourth game was keba, not ogonna. But! I know for sure that Ogonna DID pass at least 2 in that match, replacing Keba in the lineup. I was back and forth between rooms, and on phone telling people to watch, so didn't get to see, but the first was a mid-floor pass that Robyn set backrow to Tom for a kill, the other was an overpass, I believe. She did have a couple decent passes, though.

Comparitive Stats are up ranking the teams' first performance: www.athens2004.com/en/VolleyballWomen/results?eventFrag=VOW400000_C84B&btnSubmit=%3E%3EUSA ranks 11th in Diggers (5.25 with 47 errors to 21 digs) with 58 receptions from 126 total attempts. It's an interesting formula, but I like that they keep track of errors. USA leads that category (47), followed by Kenya (33), Korea (31), and China & Germay (30). Can we say: PASSING! However, of the 58 Serve Receives, 53 were ranked Excellent, with 5 faults.

Fell apart in game 4. Great effort by the Chinese. They played awesome! If the passing becomes more consistent, than USA still has a shot. But they need to pass. I didn't think China played all that well. The USA was TERRIBLE. Sykora and Tom were not passing or digging. But what really stood out for me was Phipps. Looks like the USA now has two players (Cross-Battle being the other) who have nothing left. Tom has never been a great terminator, so that's going to put a lot of pressure on Oganna. Plus, they only have one middle (Scott) who can put the ball away. The USA really laid an egg. It's too bad, because the Sport (in the USA) desperately needs this team to do well. Let's hope they turn it around, but it's a tough pool.

Let's hope they turn it around, but it's a tough pool. Next up Germany, then the Dominican Republic. Hopefully they can put it together for these "down" teams. I really need to find out why my Channel doesn't come in. I'll spend some time so I can see it clearly. From what I saw... Chinese were serving tough, keeping their attack mixed up, and keeping USA off-guard. Let's hope that China, Russia, and Cuba all beat up on each other too!

it wasn't just the passing on service receive that was crappy, a couple of free balls got thrown on top of the net too. what's up with that?
to me, it kinda looked like China was way too fast for the US. lots of kills came on the slide, lots. some were tight, some were wide - it didn't matter after a while 'cause everything started going down. Feng is amazing though, i would love to see China play Brazil at some point.

IB could be right about China just playing really well, but I was very disappointed in the USA. No passing, defense, blocking, serving, setting...they just did nothing well. Ogonna did give them a huge lift offensively, they had stretches where they blocked OK, and Scott looked pretty unstoppable (but that does them no good if they don't pass and defend).
I have to think it was just an off match for them.
